My previous client bought a bitdefender corporate license. Now, a fuck up that happened with bitdefender has them crying their milk so who do they come crying to? Nevertheless, being a professional (which sucks ass at an industrial level by the way) I said I'll help them deal with it and I can bill them for it later. After a phone call that flared up into a minor verbal confrontation after I told the guy that he is inexperienced in this issue since in 10 days he still wasn't able to resolve the issue (I'm not the sort to back down from a fight when I'm right and I most certainly will not be intimidated by anyone or anything) I demanded a call conference with his manager and a representative from my old client. Guess what? He denies that its been 10 days, that we got into a flare up, that the issue is resolvable, yada yada yada. Thank you Power Gramo. I emailed his boss with a recording of the last three conversations, I use skype for the serious business stuff because I get to record them. I learned the hard way to do this and yes, I tell them I'm recording it, but it looks like they think I'm bluffing). I seriously hope he gets his nuts scrotum roasted over a fire. I will thank my father for the rest of my life for teaching me to be orderly and for taking notes on every conversation I've had and its dated. Why, oh why, do I deal with idiots? CG, this is my Telstra [Edit] Changed to comply with CP best practices & preferred nomenclature

Funny when the antivirus product, becomes a virus ;P Shamefully, I did manage to get a virus the other day (now I have to use 2 hands to count the times I have had one). Instead of downloading some AV product, I did my normal thing, and eradicated it myself. Boring technical details follows: - I noticed quite a bit of bandwidth being used - Investigated router, and saw many attempts to SMTP ports (port 25), grrr stupid spambot! - Blocked outgoing port 25 on router to save bandwidth - Did a google for some hints but found none as the virus uses a random name every time - Then tried to see what process was causing the usage, was listed under 'System' so it had to be a driver - Looked under non-PnP devices in Device Manager, and saw the culprit - Tried to delete it, no go, permission denied - Tried to manually remove the driver from the registry, no go, permission denied too! - Not in vain, I found the name of the driver being loaded, try to delete that, grrr, permission denied - Tried to get more info by viewing the bytes of the driver, FFS, permission denied - Booted into Windows 64, deleted the driver file - Booted back to normal OS, and then I could delete all the references, viola! :) - Virus nuked! I tried to view the driver later (didnt really delete, just moved it), but it seems it was encrypted, have no idea what it was, but I sure showed it what it was messing with! leppie 1 - virus 0

I can only laugh with glee just imaginging their faces. One for being told that there is in fact a voice recording, the other for hearing it. Incidentally, its a family business and the one I'm in conflict with is the nephew of the owner, the receiver of the email.

Because they pay your wages. So like it or not, even where the customer is clearly wrong, he is still your customer. And the customer is always right. After all, they can take their business elsewhere, and that potentially can leave you out of pocket. So, bite the bullet, no matter how unsavory the taste, of course, there are limits, unless you can afford to say "goodbye" to this particular customer.

I have BitDefender at home and it made for a very messy day. Got everything straightened back out in the end but BitDefender did not email or otherwise notify anyone. A more responsible company would have made a better effort to clean up their mess instead of expecting the end user to hopefully figure it out! They can sure send me emails trying to sell me new products they cant tell me when one has failed!

Actually, I meant the company that represents bitdefender in Jordan and particularly the twit that I had a row with. My client is certainly naive when it comes to IT in general but not more so than is expected.

I didnt know anythng was wrong but Bitdefender told me it had removed a virus from a freeware program I had so I blocked the internet, set Bitdefender to do a deep system scan and left. A couple of hours later it had "found" 35,000 "infected" files. Most of them had been quarantined but a couple hundred still had issues. None of them would disinfect so I started combing through the logs and deleting files that I could live without but I noticed that there were alot of system files so I tried to start Windows restore to return it to a previous version and the .exe for that app got flagged as a virus. After that I hit the internet for awnsers and found articles stating that Bitdefender had screwed up. My solution was to disable the anti-virus, then I was able to go through the quarantined files in Bitdefenders quarantined logs and restore them to the system from there. I still had to reinstall the files I had deleted but they all belonged to programs like Chrome so it wasnt a big deal. Bitdefender did release an update for the virus definitions that you could manually update and then re-enable the virus protection but that was the only fix I heard they made so I had to fix everything else myself. But my understandign is if you cant make it to Bitdefender because it was disabled or your computer will no longer restart you are pretty well hosed.
