http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4B3IjHP05o&feature=player_embedded[^] The guy shown in the video below, is the first one to stand in line for the iPad. I have seen people camping before for special offers but this is insane. First, like all other Apple fans he could have ordered it online or even booked online. Second, he does not give a clear answer as to why he wants an iPad. [Edit] Thankfully, he is not an Apple fan. This guy is a obsessive line sitter. http://gizmodo.com/272849/breaking-first-in-line-guy-is-a-pro-linesitter-sweats-a-lot[^] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Packer[^]

Such April 1st jokes have a "gotcha" somewhere near the end. If the guy is just standing in line to buy something, where's the "gotcha?"

Normally I'd have some kind of opinion about reading about this guy but I'm a little flummoxed. I'm not sure what he does matters. But he's got a bio, so I guess he's achieved some measure of fame. I bet he's just the first of many and this will become a new minor hobby. Like 'groupie'. Limelight is one of the least rewarding rewards in life, IMO. This reminds me of Daniel J. Boorstin's book "The Image", where the news about the event becomes more important than the event itself. It's like this guy is trying to make it true, rather than there being a hype that he's glomming on to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_J._Boorstin[^]

i'll feel comfortable laughing at Apple fans the day Microsoft releases a pre-beta of yet another revolutionary new paradigm-changing web framework (which turns out to be more trouble than just writing the JavaScript by hand) and there aren't three weeks of breathless CP comments about it.

I just had a great idea. I'm going to start a company of professional line-standers. You can pay me $15USD/hr and I'll place a stand-in in the line of your choice for you. You can continue your life as a normal person while somebody else stands in line for you. I'm a genius! Next, placing corporate logos on homeless people and calling it "advertising"! I'll be rich!

Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.
