Isn't "Why * sucks" copyrighted by CG? Of course he is kind enough to let the other CPians use it every now and then. * - Replace with anything e.g. Windows, WPF, Telstra etc.

Fortunately not - but only because he can't! (I found this on a copyright info site a while ago)

                            What isn't eligible

If a work is not tangible, copyright protection will not apply. This can lead to confusion, so here are a few categories not eligible for protection from copyright: 1. Works that are not fixed. For example, the statements made by experts at a round table discussion or a comedian's stage act. 2. Titles, names, short phrases, and slogans. These materials may be eligible for patent protection. 3. Ideas, procedures and methods.

"Why * sucks" is not fixed. "Why * sucks" is definately CG's slogan "Why * sucks" is very much CG 's main idea, and his main procedure!

I can't remember the original link - it was some time ago, and I abstracted the bits I needed. I'll see if I can find any reference, but I don't hold out much hope. Software is copyrightable as a "literary work", (presumably since you can read it!) Methods and algorithms are not tangible, so they are not copyrightable - they may be patentable though.

write and publish a book (a real one, one that requires some trees to die for you), or write an article and get it published in print. That gives you copyright. :)

Isn't "Why * sucks" copyrighted by CG? Of course he is kind enough to let the other CPians use it every now and then. * - Replace with anything e.g. Windows, WPF, Telstra etc.

There's certainly mountains of evidence for prior usage....
