Probably not: especially cross browser layout! :)

Pretty cool. Seriously. I'm trying to conjure the words on how cool that was.

The following URL gives a great overview of what's in HTML5 (in Webkit based browsers (Chrome, Safari), FireFox (to some extent), and may be in IE9 when it comes out). http://apirocks.com/html5/html5.html#slide1[^] Frankly, I did not know that there was this much of stuff. Of course, the reality is that you can mainly use HTML5 in mobile browsers (iPhone, iPad, Android, and in new Blackberrys). But it does compensate for the lack of Flash. While HTML5 may not be exciting for a lot of people targeting desktop browsers (at least till IE9 comes out), it is pretty exciting for those targeting mobile browsers.

But do we really need another database platform

Why not? I already use database based local storage in some of my web applications. It is very convenient to data on the client machine. BTW: GMail, GContacts etc already do that of Safari/Chrome. Also, it is based on SQLite on WebKit based browsers. I guess if IE9 implements it, it will be based on SQL Server Compact.

No, if IE10 implements it, I'm sure there will yet *another* SQL Server version, something like SQL Server Micro, or SQL Server Really Small, or maybe SQL Server Liteweight, or even SQL Server Compact Web Express.

Well good luck waiting on that one, sunshine, I've several knitting needles I need to insert to my leg first. Besides which I fail to see why, given that there are many, many layout managers available, I have to do the job for them and properly! :)

Does someone want to explain this to me; because I am missing it. Why, if this is an HTML5 presentation, is it mostly webkit hacks?

I guess it is because only webkit implements most of the HTML5 features as of now.

It starts wrong right of the bat (no pun intended).. the damn thing wants to store something locally, which my settings told me right away.. it might explain why it didn't work for me, but if yet another presentation wants to dump sheeet in my computer that cannot be a good sign..
