Hi fellow CPians, I as a big rave parties lover, would like to know what is it like around the world on this matter. Here in Brazil, in the region I live we usually have this kind of parties (open air) every month with about 10,000 people. With many DJs from around the world. I was wondering, how is it like where you guys live? Do they happen often? Do you like them? What do you think about the trance music? I love trance, I plan one day experience these kind of parties in other countries, I'd like to know how it is out there. Share your thoughts :-D [Edit:] It seems rave parties means lots of different things in many regions. This is how it is here (on the big parties, there are also smaller parties called PVTs, for friends and friends of friends): http://img.datatravel.com.br/galeriasV2/Operadoras/1/Pacotes/xxxperience.jpg[^]

I don't know, I never go there. But I do know someone who (according to himself) does go to such events. He always shows off his new bruises on monday, confirming my suspicion that a "rave" is not something I'd enjoy.

Geez, I didn't expect such an extreme reaction. I go to this parties for about 7 years and never seen such evil. At least no here. It's pure peace, music and unity.

bruises? That's weird... Never had one in my 7 years experience on these parties. I'm starting to think rave parties outside Brazil are a whole different deal.

It would seem so, or are you sure that what you go to is actually a rave party?

In the States these usually involve mind altering drugs and are usually underground affairs done in abandoned warehouses. The date rape drug statement is true on occasion. In my experience most of the people who would attend them here aren't ready to be contributors to society as they are too busy spending their parents money.

I really don't think so. It might happen where you live, but you have no grounds saying it happens here. I've never seen such a celebration of peace as in these parties here. And I've been in way too many to always miss something like this. At least I know now where I should not go.

Lots of techno, alcohol, drugs, and strobe lights. I tend to stay away :~ I prefer small parties out in a cornfield sitting around a hay-bale ;P kidding of course!

Well, I know that in Mexico (my home country) rave parties happen very often, in the open, with thousands going there, DJ's, lights, etc etc etc, but also I know most of the people that go there uses drugs in high doses, most states in Mexico are trying to control or even ban raves. I've never been in one and I'm not planning on ever going to one, I'm just old fashioned and I enjoy more going with friends to a pub/bar/restaurant, where we can actually talk, have a couple drinks without having people pushing us around, have a good laugh and then go back home. I've a cousin that goes to these raves, and yes, he uses drugs :sigh:

In England, "raves" are associated with incredibly violent and horrid people. These people are sometimes referred to as "Chavs".

I understand, I beleive its very different from here. Here they are usually done on the country, in fishing clubs or farms, with very wide area of green landscape. With a big stage and several tents. Check this out: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3555/3385257924_dbdcdebb36.jpg[^]

(surprisingly, I'm going to a small private-ish rave tomorrow) Big raves have been dead for at least 5 years in Montreal (Canada) ; at that time, there was about 5 or 6 parties per week-ends and the scene was split into so many groups that it was not sustainable enough; and the best places for parties were becoming rare (semi-abandoned buildings ) There are still small events here and there, but are mostly held in clubs (with alcohol) or after-hours (no alcohol). There are also a few major events for new-year and spring (Bal and Blanc) and fall (Black and Blue), organized by some gay groups (but it's open to everyone and the crowd is 50/50), and a couple of "well organized" outdoor parties (mostly psychedelic/trance-ish) outside of the city (google "Eclipse Festival") In Montreal, there's the Mutek festival which is one of the better electronic festival in the world with indoor and outdoor parties. In my experience, raves are more of less the same everywhere, except if there is alcohol; then it becomes messy (a LOT more than drugs) Added link to flickr of the Winter Rave (the Igloofest) in Montreal (those were taken last year, this year images are not yet public) http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesorus/sets/72157623162872305/[^] M.

                                  Watched code never compiles.

I understand what you're saying. I go to raves because its the only place where plays trance music that I love. I also like bars and more calm stuff, but I usually do everything, from clubs to raves, from barbecues to soccer reunions. And yes, here there is also plenty of drug use in raves (mainly ecstasy), but that's not the point of the party, and its not like if there wasn't raves, drugs would stop from beeing used. I myself know many people who don't do drugs and go to raves. Some even don't even drink alcohol (which is very popular here, pretty much everybody does, including me)

In England, "raves" are associated with incredibly violent and horrid people. These people are sometimes referred to as "Chavs".

Good to know, another place to scrath from the list "Raves to Go". But here in Brazil there is also a fame of raves that don't really is the truth. It's not so extreme though.

I agree with you about alcohol, despite alcohol being available in most raves here, people usually don't drink it, or drink little of it. It's not in the culture of ravers here. People that usually get alcohol wasted in the club here, don't drink it in raves. Violence is almost inexistant, if there is any. Here most raves are outdoors, and I don't really like indoor stuff. This Eclipse festival seems nice, going to my to "Raves to go" list.

Oh, one other thing, at least I'm not alone here, there is someone else who also likes this, I was starting to think nobody in CP would like that. I listen to trance (mainly psy and full-on) everyday while driving to work. I'm completely addicted to this kind of music. Here is one of the parties I've been: http://img.datatravel.com.br/galeriasV2/Operadoras/1/Pacotes/xxxperience.jpg[^]
