E-book Reader Should I buy One

I get tired flipping and reding books in acrobar Reader in one wondow and the developing code in another. Should I buy E-reder? You suggestion please.

If you want to continue to do reading and coding simultaneously e-book reader may not help. You are probably better off with a dual monitor. Keep one monitor with e-book open and another monitor with VS open. E-book readers works great when you are relaxed and away from a computer, waiting at a Barber shop for your turn, waiting outside the White-house to get your turn to speak to the president, waiting and relaxing in a Starbucks at the mall while your wife is shopping, sitting on a long flight or when you are in a tent at a camp.

I love my Kindle II, but I have never used it for technical books, so I cannot comment on how well that would work out. Also, I have not tried the native PDF support they added in the last (one of the last?) firmware update, so I cannot comment on that, either. :~

Warning: shameless tip/trick plug ahead... It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it may be better than your current setup: View Multiple Web Browser Windows in Visual Studio. Long tip/trick short, while learning JavaScript, I liked to keep the PDF in a Visual Studio tab rather than an Adobe Reader window. Helped reduce the amount of time it took for my eyes to get used to the development environment again when swapping between it and the PDF.

If you don't spend a lot of time in planes, I would not get an e-book reader. Depending on your requirements, I would go with a second monitor or a laptop.

I spend a lot of times on plans but I still have no interest in an ebook reader. I'm just too old fashioned about owning the books that I buy. Everything I've read so far indicates that the drm prevents gifting, lending, trading and re-selling of the books. I wish I was wrong because they seem like nifty gizmos (my wife got me a kindle but I sent if back because of the aforementioned drm limitations)

My wife got me a kindle last christmas and it was slicker than grease but, the DRM on the ebooks was too restrictive so I returned it.

I agree with all the drm drawbacks and another you mey not be affected by, regional limitations. Having said that I have used ereader for a few years now and find them better than the dead tree format. I recently read a paperback and was constantly irritated by the need to get the light right and holding the pages right, the ereader was actually more comfortable.

As most have recommended, get a 2nd monitor, ereaders and PDF are crap, ereaders and novels on the other hand are excellent.

I'll stick with books and printed PDFs. My father-in-law has a Kindle; he uses it mostly for his daily paper. Last Christmas we wanted to buy a book for him, but couldn't find a way to buy a book for someone else's Kindle. :confused:

I was considering the same thing a while ago but took TrollSlayers' advice and decided not to. I don't read many fiction books any more and the consensus seems to be that they are not yet good enough with technical books/PDFs. Not to mention the DRM problems.
