If their goal was to do away with palm, then "wait 6 months" would have been a much cheaper way to accomplish it.

True. But if they though Palm could be improved or stabilized, then buying it makes sense too. In either case, it's safer to own it then not to.

Everything makes sense in someone's mind

Yep, the Board of Hp jumped the shark with the Lou Platt hire. I guess he couldn't screw things up fast enough for them.

Follow the same "Wait six months" mantra as above and you'd be able to buy Greece for that amount.

Don't be cynical. I bet their purchase of Palm makes as much sense as the one of Compaq.

I suppose it's too much to hope for, but... (folks tell me that HP's hardware has gone down-hill lately as well, but I'm still quite fond of my ten-year-old scanner and 7-year-old printer... just so long as I avoid using HP's drivers. I like things that last...)

Eh, no... The stuff I bought years ago is still working, but the newer stuff doesn't last (or so I hear). Point being, Palm desperately needs to improve their build quality, and that's something HP traditionally could have provided... Whether they still have engineers who can do that is another question.

HP has been dead in the water for a while, this could be the last gasp.

Zimbabwe dollar is now dead by the way. We all trade in US currency at the moment. Never been so well off in my life. Went from an income of 25,000 US$ to an income of 150,000 US$ overnight.

We called them comcraps. HP at the time was making great machines. They bought Compaq, and suddenly the quality of their machines matched compaq. I blame Fiorina. She drove that company into the ground.
