It seems as if every website I go to, including the some which have just "coming soon" or "under construction" pages, use jQuery is some capacity. Yes, as a web developer I do like to see the source of a web site. I am really surprised at the amazing success of jQuery. I did think that it is a good tool and it will be somewhat popular but I had no idea that it will be popular to this extent.

Novices, when confronted with the task of making a website (You're in marketing! Make us a website!), usually resort to buying some off-the-shelf 'build your own e-commerce site without having seen a computer in your life' kit, which is usually built with crap templates. JQuery has it's uses, but yes I agree, it's not very good :-)

Me... I don't use it. Actually, I don't even know what it is... Assume it's some kind of Java SQL engine, right? Of course, I don't do much web work... I run one Drupal-based site (Hmm, maybe that uses jQuery... I dunno), and one site I wrote entirely in Pico :)

I've used it to some extent but we've avoided using it on a most of our sites because it adds no value....yet.

You need to read better. He wasn't saying JQuery isn't good, quite the opposite. JQuery actually is quite good and the best of the cross-browser javascript libraries out there.

Then you must not be worried about cross-browser compatibility of your own javascript code.

My mistake, I wanted to say it did not give me the right level of control, because of it's fundamentally descriptive nature, which clashes with my inclination to know and control all the steps. I agree, it was a lazy answer :((

I think we're about to see it get even more popular. It's now included as part of Visual studio 2010.

It rocks. We are using it in anger for some projects and the developers are always smiling. The UI extension is pretty damn useful too.
