How does Apple survive?

Apparently they are really great for graphics / architectural work. Despite this loyal market, what really surprises me about Apple is the developer group. I can't really imgagine deciding to leave MS development to go for Apple. But maybe that's just because I have had no exposure to Apple development. Does anyone here know if it's a pleasure or not? Perhaps it's just really well paid. It should be considering the price tag on the pc's. :~
I've always heard that there was an idea behind Win ME... I still can't figure out what that was... anyboy know??? I;ve herad the idea was that it was supposed to be n operating system but I doubt this. - Brian Delahunty
Perhaps it's just really well paid. It should be considering the price tag on the pc's. Of course, you get to spread the development costs over more users on Windows than on an Apple. (There's probably 10 windows users per mac user.) So, you can write a Windows app for 10 windows users for $10/user and make $100. Precisly what I thought. It would be really interesting to spend a day with an Apple developer, see what the tools are like, etc. I wonder what keeps them going. :confused:

I personally haven't developed for the Mac but a few of my mates have and they say it's fine. Have a look at http://developer.apple.com/macos/macoverview/[^].. If the users of Macs are generally more artistic (graphics, music, etc), are the developers like that too? I don't know anyone who has a Mac, so I play with the ones in a local computer shop when I am there, but it's not the same as actually using one to do work.

He is a music guy and his favourite editing software is only available on Mac. Probably has something to do with that. :-)

A friend of mine said recently that he was thinking about buying an iBook. I got kinda curious, so I went to www.apple.com to checkout their prices/features. I don't know how Apple survives. The iBook laptops all have 12" screens, until you get into the $1799 price range (you can replace the DVD drive with a CD-ROM and get it for $1650). I compared it to a laptop at www.bestbuy.com

I don't feel like fighting with Linux, want to run most of the software on the market, and need to learn/know windows programming for my marketability in the job market.
