What will make you resign from your job?

Our company VP/CIO, who has been with the company for more than 35 years, has resigned. Officially it is because of family matters. However, he announced not longer ago that we are switching back to Microsoft technologies, can't help wondering if it is related to his resignation.

From watching 24, I would say its a cover up :laugh: They are trying to hide something in the current system.

Possibly. Probably not though. If it were, the company would probably make an effort to keep him involved to some degree. So, you are left guessing at the following reasons: 1. a better offer somewhere else 2. politics, and he was given a golden parachute to keep quiet 3. inside information - the company is about to go belly-up 4. some serious disgruntlement. Like switching back to MS tech. :) Who knows. Take out for a "boys night", get him drunk, and see what you find out. Erm... :-D Marc

Ah but did he jump or was he pushed? If the switch away from M$ was his idea and it hasn't been a success (from your previous post about it) that could cause at the very least a steer if not an outright push.

Over 35 years? Sounds like retirement to me. Also maybe the old dog doesn't want to hassle with learning new tricks and feels someone else may be better suited to lead the company forward.

I worked for a software company who's #2 guy resigned. Then the company laid off 1/3 of it's staff. I got the pink in the second third. I wish I had see the writing on the wall when the VP left.

Yeah, the previous issue looks suspiciously related (35 years & resigned). I can't imagine much that would make me resign without another paying job lined up. I'm sure there's something out there, probably illegal or immoral that might get me. Upper management usually has politics going on. You lose, you resign. My last job had a rediculous prolonged axe swinging which resulted in a nice severance. Very mixed feelings whether I'd go through that again...
