(2) Microsoft "wins" in the sense that they were found guilty as charged* (previously decided), but most of the watered-down provisions suggested by Microsoft were accepted. * Microsoft was found to have violated antitrust laws, illegally maintaining its monopoly over computer software operating systems by strong-arming competitors. The key was to put this provision in place before they gained market dominance. It would've been nice to see Microsoft actually punished. We'll pretend they didn't happen, but we're going to make sure you don't do it again (at least not in the same way that you did before)." All in all, MS does a great job writing software. It's interesting the time on the slashdot article now says 3:33 (this is the update time when they added the brief summary, I think). I wonder if they will have some disclosure issues - there was recently something in the news about a company suing a news outlet over releasing their financials before they were officially released. Apparently they found the link on the site and used it. Surely messing with a Federal Judge and staff is not a good thing. It was originally intended to be released after the market closed, but I bet they had it prior. Shut down slashdot? That would be nice!;)
