What happened to figuring stuff out?
-
Just found this gem in one of the forums: "Will anybody tell me the code to log the user into CMS using http post. I am working with asp.net c#, i have user control for login which is placed in masterpage. I do not have separate page for login." There seem to be more and more of these 'can you do my work for me' posts. What the hell happened to people working stuff out for themselves? I mean, how hard can this be? Even if you don't have a clue a quick search on Google should yield some results that should point you in the right direction. If I don't know something I figure it out; that's how we were taught: self-reliance which is, patently, no longer taught to or used by anyone. (Yes, I'm ranting: really sorry - I'll try not to let it happen again).

Just part of the modern world. We have loads of really good informative books at home but my kids won't look in them, preferring the instant gratification of Google. When I read some of their homework it's patently clear that it's been lifted without much thought being given to making it look like their own work. Drives me round the twist, "..but everyone does it.....", "Yeah that's why most of them are thick and will be flipping burgers in a couple of years" is my reply.

I might actually feel a little insulted by that. As I concider myself to be part of this "Modern World". :) OT: I see more of these questions per day and it keeps amazing me. Aswell as the titles for their questions. I saw one with "About exception handling". And there was absolutly nothing in the question refering to that, just some random question what he had to do to not get an exception at all!

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." - Sokrates I don't think it has changed a lot.

Evidently, you just prooved the point.
How is that? And even if so, atleast I don't go around asking people stupid questions if THEY think I belong to the modern world. :(

When I answer a clearly asked question I try to give direction not the exact code the first reply. I figure this will help more than what gets asked for (the code) in the question. I notice a lot of please (plzzzz) being used as if that is the polite thing to do. Personally I will sign off with a thank you for any assistance but the begging is too much.

You're standing in a position where only the worst is visible -- those who figured it out for themselves don't come into your field of view.
I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

Indeed: sadly there appear to be a rather large number of those who don't care to figure it out for themselves. At least we'll know that there will always be sufficient burger flippers available... :)
