So, on this trip I brought back a US 1979 Les Paul and a 32 track recorder. Everything got wet. The Les Paul is damaged, the front is all warped. The 32 track, I've not plugged in yet, but something is rattling inside there, I am concerned. :(

Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard. :) [edit] Huge bummer on the damage though. :( [edit]

Which one?  I've been eyeing the BR1600 (16 tracks) for a while, although I wish it had more tracks.  Somehow I can't get myself to venture into using a software DAW (fear of latency). /ravi

Nice guitar, real shame you messed it up. Frankly, I would go for a Tokai Les PAul. THey are every bit as good and cost a 1/5th the price. I used to have an old Hondo LP copy. It was pretty good, great sound, but you could never play up the neck as well as with a strat style guitar which is what I have now (its the top end Squirer and is rated as good as a strat, but cheaper). What amp do you use? I have a mid 70's Carlsbro 100w head (solid state). You dont see much about themon the net because they went bust, but they are supposed to be like Marshalls in that they produce a good rock sound, ad I have to say they are powerfull. Easially capable of giigging in the open air to a couple of hundred people. I have an old night club speaker to go with it ( has a secondary cone for the treble) and it seems to work OK despite being an 8ohm speaker).

Well, I have been playing it, and that seems OK. Do I need to do more than just play and see if it works ?

Because the luggage handlers submersed it in water, or at least left it in the rain for a long, long time.

If you're comfortable doing it, lift out the pickups and check for any moisture that's got in underneath. A decent repairman will do this for you as part of their check.

With the right underlying hardware and optimisation strategy in place, you should have nothing to fear. I've been using Sonar for most of my recording for the last couple of years now and it's fine.

I think that's the part that worries me - i.e. getting the hw/sw setup right. /ravi
