If the 2012 prediction is true...

Yes it will come. There is one person here at CP, who believes in 2012 Mayan prophecy so much that he is accumulating lot of weapons. If the world does not end by natural means he will end the world just by using his firepower. In case this post is tracked by FBI, I want to let them know that it is a joke
What a coincidence! That was the subject of the dream I saw yesterday. ;P All the day sky was grey. People were nervous. I thought the people are crazy. On the night I found one of my friend sitting in a bench near city park. We started to chat for a while, then he suddenly look into the sky and asked what is that. When I look into the sky I saw some mayan artifacts flying towards us. Behind that the moon was 4 times larger than now. :-D

half-believe, half-doubt I hope that we human beings can understand the situation now... protect nature

believe in what? because someone forgot to finish a calendar 2000 years into the future that it predicts doom and gloom? The MAYANS didn't even believe the world would end! It's just business as usual.... I still say they lost funding and got their contract canceled. They were just like us right? ;P "an inscription commissioned in the 7th century A.D. by King Pacal of Palenque predicts that an anniversary of his accession would be commemorated on October 15, 4772."

Recently, Our planet has suffered too many disasters, like flood, earthquake, hurricane, and so on. Is 2012 really coming?
I think the real amazing thing is that people are surprised when a 100 year event (flood, hurricane, earthquake, etc.) happens. After all, they're supposed to happen at a rate of 1 per 100 years on the average. Geological evidence seems to indicate that they've been happening at that rate for eons. Now that we have these here nifty interwebs, when normal things happen, too many people think it's the end of the world. It's like they engage in "worst case thinking" and feed themselves into a frenzy. The only ones who gain from all that are politicians and crooks, which are basically the same crowd. They promise to save us all from an event that has a minuscule probability.

That reminds me of the floods in Alamogordo a few years back. It brought down the side of a hill in the mountains, and carried massive numbers of boulders and flood waters through the city. Now that would be bad enough, because they characterized it as a 250 year flood, very rare, very strong.... but the worst damage wasn't exactly caused by that.... See, in the middle of the town there is a park, the park has an arroyo running through it that carries flash flood waters through the city and out into the valley before letting them "wander". Well, someone complained that kids were falling in the arroyo in the park.... Now they could have erected fences, but nooooooo, that just make kids try to climb them and get hurt worse.... so they smoothed out the banks making the arroyo wider and lower with a very gradual decent into the arroyo and back out. Plant some grass through the arroyo in the park and problem solved! Enter the 250 year flood.... waters come crashing into the city... most of the boulders strike a home or two and tear them up, then pile up against a bridge riping it almost in two before they settled, and the flash flood waters rushed over washing a car into the arroyo and carrying waters on past.... and then... 1/10 of a mile into the town.... the park.... the waters already cresting over the ridge of the arroyos through town hit the park and the nice gentle sloping sides and fan out across the whole city.... the roads become the new arroyos carrying water down and out through the city stranding motorists and sweeping through houses at the side of the roads.... oh no, we couldn't predict a 250 year flood, there was nothing that could have been done.... idiots.... the full error was pointed out, the arroyos dug back through properly to hold the water, and fences erected to keep kids out....

I guess eventually someday one of these dire predictions will come true (by shear coincidence?), but their track record isn't great so far.

Are you saying that politicians are in the same category as crooks? Shocking! Joke aside, you forgot to mention the Media. They gain a lot from stuff like this, from Hollywood down to the news stations.
Just an irritated, ranting son of ... an IT guy. At your trolling services

The Department of Conservation just issued this edict: The production and use of two materials that we have taken for granted for too long is finally taking too heavy a toll on our planet. Paper and ink both draw from Mother Earth's pool of natural resources. Trees, and plants that could be used to feed the starving, are squandered daily in volumes that would astound our forefathers, and will deny our grandchildren a happy life. With the advent of the "paperless office", it was hoped that this savage drain on our world's resources would lessen, but this has turned out not to be the case. To help ameliorate the situation, it has been decided that numbers and letters which consume too much ink and take up too much space on a page are to be removed from the language. Henceforth, use of all digits except the number one are prohibited, so, for example, next year will be the year 1111, the year following it 1111, etc, and all alphanumeric characters except the letter i iii iiiiiii iiiiii. Iiiii iiii iii iiii iiii iiii iiiii ii ii ii iiii ii iiii iii iiiiiiiiiiiii ii iii iii, iiii ii iiii iiii iiii ii iiii iiii. Iiiii iii. [edited because of I typoed in the last paragraph -- sorry, but I'm crap at transcription]
