There's a "Change background image" link in the bottom left corner. However, that requires you to log in to iGoogle.

Yeah, I saw that. At the bottom of the page is "Was this page useful?" I smashed the NO button and typed in a very pointed GET THE BACKGROUND IMAGE THE F*CK OFF MY GOOGLE SEARCH PAGE!!!! Marc

What happens if you type that in as a google search?

clickety[^] This is why I love lifehacker. They always have a solution :)

If you headed to Google.com today and found the Bing-like background image enabled by default, don't freak out—it's apparently a 24-hour introduction of the feature, with backgrounds rotating on a random basis. If Google.com's a regular part of your day, and the background's distracting, do what commenter Cathoo recommends: hit the "Change Background Image" link in the lower-left, head to the "Editor's Picks" section, then scroll to the bottom to find the familiar, entirely white "theme." Or just wait until Google's background experiment reverts to its mostly-blank default.

If you need a hammer get C and shut up. If you need a nail gun get C++ and shut up. If you don't need *those* things (and good design should tell you) then by all means get a factory, factory, factory. --code-frog Why would you need to date, when C++ is your soul mate?! --Steve Echols

Not only is it annoying, but the fade-in animation is even more distracting!

Odd, I don't see them.  Perhaps it's because I've replaced my hosts file with the one from mvps.org[^]? /ravi

Well, I'll be using some other search engine in the meantime. What a way to detract people from using Google. I wonder how many people will permanently switch over, mwahahahaa!!!! Marc

I'm considering it. Not to bing, though... That's just as bad... Maybe yahoocares search... Anything without a giant bloody #(%*&@#()*%&#()*&Uing image every time I just want to find something.

OMG What is happening at Google? First the fade-in thing, now this?! I hope this is just their "New Coke" phase and they will come to their senses soon.

Someone in Google HQ must have thought that the troublesome little upstart (Bing) might have had a good idea with the backgrounds and decided to pull it into Google as a new and very unwanted feature. It could however be like one of the Google graphics things that are there for so long then vanish, but it appears to be missing a link if that is the case.
