Which one was WheelJack? And what about Ravage? I always loved Ravage and Laserbeak... Or where those just schemas under Soundwave? And what about the Dinobots? Swoop, Snarl, Slag, Grimlock, and... uh.... damn, my memory fails me again...

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

lol...nice. :) I didn't get into the casettes, lol...but IIRC Grimlock was an application test server and the other Dinobots were used for load testing. I think Sideswipe or Prowl or something might have been in the mix...it's been a while...

Then you may use Cthulhu/Necronomicon/Miskatonic (I'll stuck with my Beck's/DAB/Heineken scheme...). :)

Somehow I imagine it being difficult to explain the telnet connection to "SILVIA-SAINT12" or "NM3-JRCARRINGTON". I'm sure that's just me though... :)

Someone else started naming their computers after Greek Gods/Goddesses and Hyperion got hit today with "same name on the network) bit.... well, I figured it had to happen eventually... so I am finally jumping ship to a new naming scheme... Aztec/Maya/Inca. I figured unless we get a 2012 obsessed person in here, they are not likely to think of Adawulcanak or Tliewatuwadjigican. Oh someone might, maybe, possibly think of Quetzalcoatl, but there is no way they are spelling it without a google, so chances are it won't be worth trying. :) I lasted 4 years naming machines from Greek Gods. :) Not too bad. :) Think I can last at least 4 years with Aztec/Maya/Inca Mythological names? :-D

At home my names are always functional. eg I'm currently posting from "I7-920"; at work all physical computers get named after their asset tag. All the VMs I've seen hosted on the server farm have been named after the project using them. Needing both project management and someone from corporate IT to sign off kinda limits the ability to do any interesting naming.

Go for Quantum Particles. Higgs Boson Gluon Quarkonium (that's got a nice ring to it) Here's a list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_particles[^] to get you going.

Like it. :) We've mostly gone for obscure satellites, with the odd star, constellation or ringer thrown in. From memory we currently have: Laptops: Elara, Ophelia, Gabrielle*, Cortex Desktops: Xena (the big black box full of Vogons), Galatea, Larissa Servers: Vega, Orion, Sirius. Defunct/retired: Lysithea, Amalthea, Europa, Ganymede, Taurus, Adrastea and one I can't remember (but as it was a Sony it doesn't count anyway). * Bought at the same time as Xena and tended to orbit it for a while. A bit of an in-joke, really.

I can't tell you what my computers are called, because of the Kid Sister rule... Suffice to say that I take great delight when someone asks "What's the name of the SQL server?" and I can reply, with a reasonably straight face "*&^%HEAD". The password, of course, is "ItsASecret"

Because his wife wouldn't let him name them after porn stars ... probably!

If you believe the Aztec mythology, you will only have to last out until 2012!

I would have expected a different terminal. Such as Smith & Wesson, Colt, Ruger and Browning

If I had done that and mentioned it, the entire thread would have been moved to the soapbox by people with an overblown sense of self-importance.

I'm not having any problems with the KSS rule. But this thread moving business certainly lacks consistency.
