Since no one has recommended it try the "Statue of Liberty". Empire State Building and the Museum's are also good to visit.

I am planning on being there around that time, actually. That is, I have to spend all of Oct in the US, and I am insisting on getting to NYC at some point. I assume I'll see the Empire State, the Statue, what else is there ?

You could try the suicide booth. They have them everywhere in NYC. There only open at night and only located in dark-alleys.

If you're looking for something other than the traditional tourist traps my mom said the Tenement Museum was interesting and plans to go back periodically (IIRC they change the period they're showing every once in a while).

As others have recommended the various museums are interesting. Since my last contract in NYC was in the early 1990s I don't know if the places I used to frequent after work are still there. McSorleys[^] and Fraunces Tavern[^] I'm sure are still there, and Windows on the World (top floor of the World Trade Center South Tower) I'm sure is not. I don't know what else to recommend because I don't know the things you like to do. Chances are whatever it is can be found there. I'm an old man whose party days are pretty much behind me now so I wouldn't know what to do for fun in the city. Some of the younger folks will no doubt be able to direct you to some night life. Have a good stay in The Big Apple.

The best tip I took (and the best tip I would give) would be to go up Top of the Rock. I would do this instead of going up the Empire State building - the lifts (and the elevators :o) ) are SO much faster plus you get a fantastic view of the Empire State building itself and of the Park. We stayed in the W off Times Sq, I thought it was great although we did get a large discount! Other things I did on my last trip: Oyster bar in Grand Central station is really good Walked across the Brooklyn bridge (we got a taxi to Brooklyn and walked back as it was bitterly cold) Went to see AvenueQ Proposed in Central Park :o)
