Oh, I missed that you said DC. The white house is OK to see, but nothing special, I mean, you recognise it from it blowing up in ID4, but you can't get close or anything. I loved the WWII and Vietnam memorials, the big needle thing, and the massive statue of Lincoln ( the one Clint Eastwood feeds pigeons from in In the line of fire ). The Smithsonian is awesome, give yourself lots of time, b/c you will need it ( as someone else said ).

Last time I went I had a guide and I would tell her what I wanted to see and she would take me to where it was. Cut a lot of wondering around time out. She was also a volunteer at the local zoo so I got the inside track there also, neat place as well.

I am planning on being there around that time, actually. That is, I have to spend all of Oct in the US, and I am insisting on getting to NYC at some point. I assume I'll see the Empire State, the Statue, what else is there ?

The Museum of Natural History and Intrepid/the aircraft carrier/ are my favorite places.

As others have recommended the various museums are interesting. Since my last contract in NYC was in the early 1990s I don't know if the places I used to frequent after work are still there. McSorleys[^] and Fraunces Tavern[^] I'm sure are still there, and Windows on the World (top floor of the World Trade Center South Tower) I'm sure is not. I don't know what else to recommend because I don't know the things you like to do. Chances are whatever it is can be found there. I'm an old man whose party days are pretty much behind me now so I wouldn't know what to do for fun in the city. Some of the younger folks will no doubt be able to direct you to some night life. Have a good stay in The Big Apple.
