Anything that doesn't have Symantec written on the box... X|

It is that time of the year again where I need to update my antivirus program. Having looked at various reviews none of which agree I am wondering if anybody has some opinions? It seems the best are (in no particular order): - Vipre - BitDefender - Kapersky

I have used AVG and currently a paid McAfee. Liked AVG to start but it started missing things which may or may not be my fault. Switch to McAfee and it works okay. Just put Microsoft Essential on my mom's computer and it is doing well after all the updates. :) Since mom only uses a old copy of WordPerfect, Spider solitaire, and the occasional email, I had not been keeping up with the updates.

I answered this ages ago and Code Project lost my post. You Bastard Maunder. BitDefender, been using it for over 4 years, become a reseller, only use AntiVirus and not the Internet / Total Security crap. Reasonably priced and doesn't hog resources or get in my way.

I find the best Anti-virus is a cave. I then remove the CD drive, disable the USB ports, and then remove the network card. Oh, and for good measure, I take out the power supply. That just about does the trick of protecting it against everything :-O :-D

It's amazing what some people do to steal information from people:suss: However, I think the lack of network card may help ;P

Thought you were serious. Thus the laugh. Been there done that sort of thing. We use Symantec at work and I am glad someone else has to fight with keeping it working correctly.

Never mind keeping the damn thing working: I just wish some PC manufacturers wouldn't pre-install a limited time trial of the damn thing that I have to battle with to uninstall cleanly before I can get anything useful on. At least McCoffee uninstalls fairly cleanly. Still junk, these days, but easier-to-get-rid-of junk.
