In this particular case, I'm not all that convinced about which is the retarded one...

I find the best Anti-virus is a cave. I then remove the CD drive, disable the USB ports, and then remove the network card. Oh, and for good measure, I take out the power supply. That just about does the trick of protecting it against everything :-O :-D

It's amazing what some people do to steal information from people:suss: However, I think the lack of network card may help ;P

It is that time of the year again where I need to update my antivirus program. Having looked at various reviews none of which agree I am wondering if anybody has some opinions? It seems the best are (in no particular order): - Vipre - BitDefender - Kapersky

Never mind keeping the damn thing working: I just wish some PC manufacturers wouldn't pre-install a limited time trial of the damn thing that I have to battle with to uninstall cleanly before I can get anything useful on. At least McCoffee uninstalls fairly cleanly. Amen to that!! They should do away with pre installed trial software altogether, if we want a trial version of something we'll get it ourselves! It's always such a time waster... :( Ja nee, McAfee is the worst AV in existence at the moment. I'd feel safer having nothing running than having that running... really, I wouldn't be surprised if there were plenty of viruses and things that use it as a launch platform :| And I stand open to correction but in my experience Trend is also a monster fail at the moment. They unsuccessfully made a release that was 100% Vista compatible that literally drowned the OS and CPU and made it impossible to do anything more than stare at the desktop (because it was hanging). They then released a much awaited update and entirely new version which... did exactly the same thing except the version number had changed. I haven't had problems with Norton/Symantec at all as a single user but I can say that whenever this topic comes up I always hear mention of Nod and lately MSE. Also Avira but that seems to be a more European taste.

NOD32 - light weight on resources and has not missed a virus in years according to the virus test sites.
