Maybe I'm just cynical, but I can't help feeling that the weapon inspectors will get there, and still find places they're not allowed to look, and it'll take another year or so to progress any further. And this is a surprise? It was always going to be this way. The Iraqi "parliament" was always going to make Saddam look like a dove by acting like hawks (on his orders obviously). The he comes along and overturns their decision saying "look at me, I am a man of peace". A load of stage-managed bullsh*t. Now the game of cat and mouse with the UN will begin before the shooting war starts in the Spring. I think there is zero chance of a war being avoided - the decision has already been made. The US/UK will attack next year, and if they don't have a good reason by then, then they'll conjur one up. Cynical yes, but mark my words - a second Gulf War war is already an absolute certainty.

You may be correct. I put the odds at about 20:1 for avoiding some kind of war. :( However, if (and it is obviously a BIG if) this whole thing works out peacefully and Iraq is disarmed before Saddam can wreak havoc, will any of the current Bush/Blair bashers give them any credit at all? I put the odds at about 1000:1 against. :) Mike Mullikin

Like I have been saying for a while, this is just the next step in a long political dance. The world isn't yet saved from Saddam or Bush. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

I seem to remember the same bleeding heart euro-centric UN that we hear today demanding that Desert Storm end as soon as Iraq left Kuwait. Left on his own Bush senior would have gladly taken out Hussein. Seems to me the UN has once again made victims of us all. Mike Mullikin

Pretty much all of the Bush family money comes from Oil, and (it at least appears) that the whole interest in the gulf is gaining control of the oilfields -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I can't help feeling that the weapon inspectors will get there, and still find places they're not allowed to look, and it'll take another year or so to progress any further. It's all just been stalling tactics from what I can see :| -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

I don't think this will happen. I know what an itchy trigger finger Bush has. If any little excuse comes up, Kaboom! End of story. I think the real reason is that the stalling that's already taken place has given Iraq enough time to hide the WOMDs very, very well. Saddam himself hides behind scores of look-alikes and decoys. How much more would he be willing and able to hide his big weapons?
