They do need improvement, and taxes are high in the UK. At first I got really pissed when I saw the newspapers dumping all over the government here all the time, but now I see that a lot of it actually is just contributing to keeping them in line. He was taken to the state rather than the private hospital as he did not have medical aid, but only after seeing a private doctor who wrote a letter with the heart attack diagnosis to the hospital staff. The heart attack had caused pain in the man's left leg, so at the state hospital the doctor promptly amputated the offending leg instead of treating the damage done to the heart. Needless to say the man died about 3 hours later, leaving a wife and 2 young children. In comparison to this the NHS looks like heaven, but then people in England find it hard to believe things like this really occur in a civilized country. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's all relative. :|

Some people are waiting 2 or more years for heart operations. Yes, heart operations.I have waited for longer previously also. The NHS staff are fantastic - they work for so little pay (firefighters take note) and do a great job considering how under-funded they are. Unfortunately, a lot of people take their frustrations of the NHS out on the staff. We're just too damn proud of our NHS to scrap it. It's a mess.

If anything happened, it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the monarchy unless one of them had commited a crime - you can't pervert the course of justice if there is no case being investigated. AFAIK NHS is supposed to be a "base level" of medical care. I often hear reports on how the government over there is planning to re-vamp NHS and make it better and pump more money in and etc. blah etc. Maybe it needs to fail completely before anything is done.
