The total lack of perpective from the muslim world leaders who have threatened death and destruction because of this is rather interesting. Still, they got what they wanted. The simple fact is don't cross Islam, no matter who you are.

They proved that threats of death and destruction work - the US wet the bed and put pressure on a bloke in a swamp not be naughty.

The pressure wasn't put on him because people might be killed. The pressure was put on him because his actions were stupid and counter productive. he made it harder for the US to do the job that it's trying to do. If all the moderate Muslim leaders had come out and said that he had a right under the First Amendment of his country to build his bonfire, and he should just be ignored, it wouldn't have changed the fact that the guy is the best recruiter that the Taliban et al have had in years. When you've got someone in your country recruiting terrorists, you shut them down. Regardless of what the rest of the world thinks. This isn't a story about how Muslims can't handle criticism. This is a story about a nut job in Florida who thinks 'tragical' is a real word, running a recruitment drive for the very people he claims to hate. There were Party Hats and High Fives in Taliban HQ when Jones hit the world headlines. I wouldn't be surprised if they are considering putting his face on their bank notes or a postage stamp. -Rd

People are willing to kill and maim because a bloke acting under nobodies authority other than his own says he will burn some books - that's a story albeit a rather sad story.

On the contrary. Without that single fact, this would not be a story at all, as no one would give a damn if some nutjob burnt some books. on the other hand...[^]the reverse draws neither outrage nor even complaint.
