I know that many of you have been awaiting this with bated breath, so have I. It’s finally been announced and the name’s going to be D7000. It will have a new 16.2 MP CMOS sensor (Nikon manufactured), twin SD slots (this is usually a pro-camera feature), 1080p HD video, ISO range from 100 to 6400 (HI-modes take you to 25600), 39 point AF (supports older non AF-S lenses), and I believe it introduces a new battery (so your D80/90 batteries can’t be reused). Here's the official Nikon USA link: http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Digital-SLR/25468/D7000.html[^] Oh, and most importantly, the estimated price is 1,199.95. That's not bad, not bad at all. Now I will begin planning my purchase arguments deviously, and if all goes well, I'll get spousal approval for this! Muhahahahah! :-D

I have used that before, and I will reuse it when they release a new 2.8 constant aperture zoom with VR :-)

Well, I don't see anything very good over the previous model except "magnesium-alloy" body. That Video recording is a lie, until they (Canon / Nikon / everybody) fix that fixed length capture limitation. :)

:wtf: New sensor, much better ISO levels, 1080p video, dual SD cards, newer faster AF system (this alone is worth an upgrade). And apparently, it also meters with all AI-S lenses (not confirmed on the Nikon site, but mentioned on other reviews).

Might have been interested...except I got myself a D300 for less than that from eBay - OK, it was second-hand, but it's a totally splendid camera... And it's heavy and tough enough that I can use it as a self-defence weapon....

Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p CodeProject MVP for 2010 - who'd'a thunk it!

Well it's 2 years now since they released the D90. The D80 to D90 gap was 2 years too. So this was surely to be expected.

This is good, but what if you just buy 16/32 GB single card.

This is good... Yes if you think from professional photographer's point of view yes its all must have upgrades (but again then just buy Canon 1D / 7D Mark), but from general consumer point of view its very costly upgrade. :) and the main problem is "how you are going to convince your wife" :-D

15-20 min limitation + you need expensive SD card.

Well when you are at the prosumer (just below pro) level camera, low light abilities are indeed very important.

Dual SD cards are more for redundancy/reliability than for extra storage.

Not really, it's more expensive than the D90 is but it certainly has better specs.

All married photography enthusiasts face this problem. I enjoy lurking on eBay, and buying photography stuff that I don't really need, but would rather like - "I wonder if the xyz lens is better than my pqr version". This means that the item will arrive by post, and there is no guaranteeing who will go to the P.O.Box first after it arrives. The conversation goes like this: Me: "Could you find me a small carboard box, dear, I seem to have damaged my pqr lens, and I need to send it to UK/Germany for repair. I'll drop it off next time I'm in town." TheLadyWife: "You're always breaking stuff - you need to be more carefull. OK, I'll get one for you from the shed." Me: "Thanks, love, it should be back in a week or so. Let me know if it's arrived next time you go to town." Needless to say no lens is sent for repair, and the box is kept for when the lesser of the two lenses hits eBay. :-O "Needs must when the devil drives." :)

Same here, except maybe not for an iPad (since I'd never buy one, not at Apple's price).
