But... Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (Two liberal extremists [if you don't believe me watch their show]) are holding an anti-extremist rally in Washington, D.C. Sometimes, the clue meter just reads zero. I really think those two think they are moderates. (Ok, technically, Jon Stewart is holding the anti-extremist rally and Colbert is holding a Fear rally)

You're kidding right? It's Comedy Central, why on earth would anyone take much of anything they say seriously? And, having seen both shows a couple of times, and seen both Stewart and Colbert interviewed, I'd find it hard to attach the label extremist to either one. On further reading, both of these guys are just organizing this stuff as a spoof of Glenn Beck. Beck is an extremist, or at least does a great job playing one and in the process spews forth un-information and riles people up over nothing.

Oh the irony. You are one-voted (extreme) by someone who disagrees with your post about extremism.

Same old, same old. Only extremists accuse others of being extremists; only conspiratorial types accuse others of being part of a conspiracy, etc. People who don't know how to just live their lives without pissing people off piss me off. I suppose that makes them successful, by their standards. [edit] It wasn't me who down-voted your posting; must be someone's way of accusing you of being an extremist.

They are actually just making fun of guys like Glen Beck. As far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.

Do I misunderstand the meaning of the word liberal? It seems to me that calling someone a liberal extremist is akin to calling some a motivated apathist.

Well, I am using Jon's Stewart's definition of extremist here (in reverse). After all, a few weeks ago I accidentally caught the beginning of his show and got to hear that, according to Jon Stewart, a Conservative Extremist is one that burns the Qur'an while a Muslim extremist hijacks a plane and crashes it into a building.

In this context you do. After the average US voter figured out that the progress the progressives were talking about was towards Communism our far left stole the term liberal for their own label.

If they're liberal extremists it makes me wonder what you'd think of some of the people I know. That said, John's done some of the better interviews I've seen in the last few years, when they aren't pure fluff at least. But it seems like an extension of their shows at this point, which is at least open about their bias to the point they seem to put a hat on it. But it's a decent set of shows to catch stories which may be interesting to look into. Though out of curiosity how exactly did you hear about this given you're particularly uninterested in these two?

Because people look to them as a source of news. An article was published recently where research found that a significant portion of the American public, particularly youth and adults in their 20s, get their news from Comedy Central and Saturday Night Live.

I like watching scrubs at 6 when I am checking email and stuff. Sometimes 7 rolls around and there it is. If I start hearing about how evil I am I turn it. This time I heard about the rally, I listed and then changed the channel. The Food Network and Travel channel has some good content on.

I've seen John Stewart have a go at the Obama adminnsitration and he did has had members of both parties on his show. It's just those teabaggers set themselves up so well how do you expect him to resist? As for TAPS Palin...

They're both comedians. Jon Stewart's on-air persona is that of the ultra-liberal... Stephen Colbert's is that of the ultra-conservative. Don't take them, or the rally, so seriously :)

I am admittedly extremely financially conservative and socially liberal and admit it. I think the Federal government should yield power to the State's in almost all issues and I think the Senate being elected by general election is a bad idea. But that is just me. I also have solutions to the Tax problem, the health care problem, and several other issues. I just don't tell people because they don't like hard solutions.

i have never seen a single justification for repealing the 17th amendment that makes a lick of sense.

That's comedy, not extremism. I'd hold in your favor that they just attack people and opinions you happen to like.

clearly, you have never met an actual liberal (let alone an "ultra" liberal) IRL

I try to avoid ultra-anythings... I have in mind a certain estimate of average human intelligence, and though it's already pretty low, I don't want to have to decrease it even more.
