I've often thought this, but it's no reason to give up. Which is why in a way all us citizens voted for the bailouts, the recession, the wars, CIA rendition, and everything else our government does in our name. You know the saying, you reap what you sow. That's where we're at right now harvest time. I want to change the crop.

In part that's why I asked, but mostly for ideas. People are idiots, but that's why I ask. There has been a lot of organizing as of late in Iowa that hasn't really been making the news. I had to watch a public broadcasting program to know about it. In some cases IQ should be required for having kids too.

Do you know Geert Wilders? Do you know how many votes his party got?

I didn't know him by name per say, but recognized him as soon as I saw his picture on wikipedia. I don't know how many votes he got, but his head is screwed on a bit across the threads. I didn't know he was so off.

I don't think I really have the answers.. People have always been idiots, I don't think it will ever really change, and any attempts to take away the power they abuse is likely to backfire. Putting more money in education wouldn't hurt though. Civics is one of the most despised mandatory subjects, at least that was the case at the school I went to. I think they could do better than "pure torture", if they tried. But then of course the only way of getting people to do anything is giving them money. So be it.

I knew you would chime in with that... This isn't socialism or fascism. This is capitalism taken to extremes. He didn't pay for fire protection, so they let his house burn down. If it was socialism, they would have come anyway, and just charged it to the taxpayers. If it was fascism, they would have burnt his house down themselves for failure to pay.

You can't get rid of capitalism, however when you try to make a society socialist or facist capitalism is taken to the extreme using draconian laws instead of free-market principles.

Exactly how is this a "draconian law?" He didn't pay for his fire protection service, so they didn't put out the fire.

That's called, "You don't pay your bill, you don't get any service." If the gas company cut you off for not paying, would that be draconian?

He pays property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, perhaps business related taxes, state and city fees, and all that shit. He is taxed enough already and since he didn't pay his mafia protection fee his house burned down.

If his "fire protection" is a separate fee, that means his taxes are reduced by the amount that would normally go to the fire department.

No, you are the one with the burden of requiring proof, hard evidence that his city cut his taxes as a result of instating the fee.

Seems pretty logical that his taxes would be higher if the city was providing fire protection without an extra fee. If you think they're double-charging, let's see some evidence. Right now, they're providing fire protection as an optional service... That's closer to free-market, not further from it. You should be cheering this on, kiddo. But that's ok... We know you're too drugged up and infested to think straight... It's not your fault.
