Arindam, I can show you several cases in my organization and even my previous organization where a lateral SE is paid higher than SSE or an TL getting paid higher than Manager. I opted for Opportunity over Pay, because, honestly speaking, I would not prefer to work on Outdated technologies or to do Mechanical work for higher pay. Anyways, it is an individual perspective, and I respect you perspective/opinion. :)

You are absolutely correct my friend. But my experience, give a fair chance to everyone, most people goes for money or "high pay", some succeeds, while some compromises with other compensation !!! But I am sure you might be the person who never runs after money !!(and exception defines the rule :-O ) You rock man!!

      Thanks, Arindam D Tewary

Ooops ... does this mean the person who does not opt for "pay" as the first option is "abnormal"

It not based on single job.... i'll choose a perfect key in a bunch. Possibly Pay will show you how is the job & company, etc., So no worries

I presume you are not commenting ironically, as the "laugh" icon is a bit confusing to me. Anyways, I take the comment in positive manner. I appreciate your views. 5 from me!

                          1. Pay and work environment (they're equally important - I'm not settling for one) 3. Opportunity (I can create my own - I work on pet projects if work isn't challenging enough) 4. Company

Just reading through to make a similar comment. My last job was 5 minutes from my house, and I was there when my daughter was born so was perfect for me. I stopped a lot longer than I would have done because of the ease of getting home, lack of travelling time as I grew to hate the job I was doing and a lot of the people there. Now I have a 30 to 40 minute commute (nothing compared to many I know), but my working time is flexible and I have the opportunity to work from home if needed. I would have to be offered a lot more money to consider giving up the work life balance as it is called here.
