List[^] I've never been to Vegas but can imagine it being as described. Although I would not even think of going there for a vacation longer than one day unless I wanted to play poker. The last time I visited Stone Henge there was no visitor infrastructure, you could simply walk up to the henge, touch the stones or sit on them if you wanted to. I found it a strangely haunting place. Unless you are a Geologist, Archeologist or similar, though, I would find it hard to imagine a visit of more than about an hour remaining interesting. I have been to Paris many times. I had no problems with queues at the Louvre itself nor in viewing The Mona Lisa. However, in my many visits I have never had the patience to endure the wait for the Eiffel Tower. Totally agree with the Madame Tussauds or any wax-works, for that matter. Anyone any experience of the other attractions, particularly times to visit to avoid queues.

If you can visit Avebury[^]. There is a series of standing stones and massive earth ring-works so large that the village is inside them. It has a much better atmosphere, and a decent pub with a fruity barmaid IIRC. There is a visitor's centre which is worth a visit (Oddly, another of Wife's supervisors was in charge there for a while - just shows how nepotistic that whole world is) but most of the site is free. One word of warning though: The cafe in the visitor's centre is solely vegetarian, which royally hacked me off (I had a craving for a ham sandwich) because you know henge, spiritual, oooooooh-aaaaaaaaaah therefore vegetarian wet-liberal type reasoning. I wouldn't be happy with a cafe only serving non-vegetarian food, why should I be happy with one that is purely vegetarian? But then I'm from the North :-). I doubt the people who built the henge held much truck in vegetarianism either, given the amount of stone-age slaughtered deer and other hoof-base deliciousnesses that has been found.

Mate of mine is getting married in Vegas today. I can watch in the internet. Chichen Itza was the subject of the quite excellent An Idiot Abroad on Sky One last week. Looked good first thing when there were few people around. I got took to Land's End when I was a kid, and think I quite liked it but then I quite like rocks facing into the ocean. Driven up to it recently but failed the credit check to be allowed in. I went up the Eiffel Tower a few years ago, don't remember much of a queue and the view from the top is spectacular, the difference in quite between the second level and the top is incredible. Wasn't keen in the shaky old lift to get up there though. Didn't bother with the Louvre, too big a queue so went round a few of the smaller galleries instead.

When I lived in Larkhill (A tiny place near Amesbury) I would pass Stonehenge every day. I always thought to myself,"It's just a bunch of Stones" and never visited it. Many years later, I went there properly and paid up and wandered around with the 'informative' headphones. And I was awestruck. Mainly by the sheer effrontery of being charged good money to walk around what turned out to be "Just a bunch of Stones".

Totally agree on Bondi Beach. It's famous for being famous, but isn't that great a beach.

I'm good never been to any of em, and no intent. And I would add to that list Dancing Bears Gas, Restaurant, Post Office, Liquor Store, Gift Shop, Town Hall and Sheriffs Office in Ajo, Arizona! Just my 2 sense

I agree with you that the queues for the Eiffel Tower are ridiculously long. I have often been there and said to myself: "Nah, I won't bother today". But on the occasions when I have taken the times to wait in line, I must say that I think the view from the tower is unbeatable. And I think that it is a must for first time visitors to Paris. I voted for the Eiffel tower in the "new 7 wonders of the world"[^] "competition", but unluckily it didn't place... However, if you can do with a little less, I can also recommend the view from the Sacre Coeur!
Went 2 weeks ago they now have tickets you purchase online for a timeslot so queues were not very large. Although there is another queue on the second level to go right to the top! Cool thing was you did not need to print out tickets could just scan barcode from iPhone.
