New app idea
-
The intro comp teacher here at my school recently asked me to redo the spreadsheets that they use for Football stats. I'm nearly finished with that, but it did give me an idea. To create a windows app that keeps stats, generates a ton of different reports, graphs, etc. Would this be useful to anyone? The reason I ask is, I want my first big project (C#) to be useful/pruductive not something lame, complicated and have no real world use. Any suggestions would be great. --- I wonder what color security is today;P ******************** * SteveMcLenithan * steve@steve-mac.com * http://steve-mac.com ********************

Steve, It is a great idea. There are lots of apps like this out there[^]. But, it is fun sometimes to re-invent the wheel and excel's data analysis and stats packages are terrible. Best of luck Fill me with your knowledge, your wisdom, your coffee.

I do not know how many people would actually us it, but I think it would be a great idea to go ahead and implement it for the experience. I agree with the previous replier who suggested making it web enabled so many people can get to the data. Here in Kentucky, we would love something like that during NCAA basketball season.

Steve McLenithan wrote: stats, generates a ton of different reports, graphs, etc. Sounds like what my* company makes. :-D Still, a web-based version would be cool (keeping track of all those hockey stats, oh yeah..... ) * "my" as in "the company I work for" not "the company that I own" That's why I ramble so much. If you're short and quotable, there's a much greater danger of ending up in a sig. [Christopher Duncan on how to prevent yourself from ending up in a sig]

I was actually talking about tracking all stats this way a few days ago. The thought was to use the info to create your own odds, match them against Vegas odds, and come up with a system to win a large % of the time in sports gambling. Well, the beer was tasty anyway. BW "I'm coming with you! I got you fired, it's the least I can do. Well, the least I could do is absolutely nothing, but I'll go you one better and come along!" - Homer J. Simpson
