I hate JSOP's downer threads about how X sucks, but I can't help myself: I am trying to write a CP article. Dear Lord, it has been painful: -Using my regular browser, Chrome 5, all kinds of editing doesn't work; I was forced to give up. (I can give specifics, but I assume this is a known issue.) -Using my secondary browser, Firefox 3.5, the image insertion tool doesn't work. (Probably more, gave up after images didn't work.) -I fell back to IE 9 Beta. Oh, hitting CTRL+Z to undo will either a) change a huge portion of text to a different formatting style or b) make your whole post go blank (yes, no text, can't edit, preview shows empty page, just lost 20 minutes of work). I authored my post in Word, knowing how crappy this experience is right now, yet that experience wasn't great either: pasting into CP resulted in all kinds of bad formatting, missing images, double spacing, and other problems. Doing the "Word cleanup" bit didn't help either. I suspect CP would get more (and better?) article submissions if this process were easier. Ideal experience: author a post in Windows Live Writer, publish to CP. (Does CP have an API to publish articles? I'd be willing to write a Live Writer plugin...) *edit* I managed to finish editing in IE 9 Beta. Have a looksie and enjoy: Building a Pandora Clone in Silverlight 4.:thumbsup:

I've always used Notepad, and just viewed the HTML file locally until it was the way I want it. With the exception of one article, it's always worked fine. All told, it's a 5-10 minute process.

Funny. I actually considered using the Async CTP in the code, but threw out the idea as frivolous article snaz. :) Check it out: building a Pandora clone in Silverlight 4.

If Chris ever exposes a service interface, it would be fairly simple to write article submission apps, or if people want to use stuff like Live Writer they could easily write a plugin for it.

Using Live Writer or Word or any other document processor program you might care to mention is precisely why so many article submissions look like crap. I'm not onboard with the idea.

Funny, I've been working on an update for my WinForms article editor today. Old version: A Code Project Article Editor with Live Preview[^]. That version is out of date, but gives you an idea. The new version is quite stable, and has spell checking and thesaurus, and various bits and bobs including a prototype HTML validator. Would you like to do some beta testing? :) Nick

Maybe, but it will be fun to write a plugin :-) It probably won't be fun to read submissions that were made using the plugin, but that's a different issue there! :-D

No they look like crap because people cut and paste. If there is data migration in real terms via Live Writer then it will look just as it should and does in the blogging writer. If such an integration was possible I would write twice as many articles as I do now.

That's nice. I use WLW because it works great for writing HTML posts.

I write mine in Notepad and submit by email. They never should have added the online editor/submitifier thingy. X|

I write them in SharepointDesigner (Beer-Free! And works for HTML idiots like me!), then paste into the so-called article editor. Just dowenload and link the CP style sheet, and you are set.

I used Kompozer[^] for my first article and when I asked here for some advice on alternatives at least one kind respondent asked why I didn't use Visual Studio. I have done ever since for that kind of thing and it has many advantages. As the others have mentioned, I then use the Email route.
