Just as there is no appropriate forum to this... is anyone expert in AS400 - DB2? If so, my question would be the following: what are and how to handle in Oracle the "Packed" fields of DB2/400 ? Thanks in advance for not crying out loudly that this is not the correct forum...

If you do not know which forum to post a programming question in, just go to Questions and Answers and choose "Ask a question". It will be moved to the correct section with tags, or if required, the community will create new tags. In any case, the chances of getting a programming question answered in the lounge is bleak.

If only somebody could invent a technology where somebody could search for the text from servers and websites all around the world. Perhaps the content could be indexed somehow. Oh, if only somebody would invent this. I, for one, could find a use for it.

well, from memory the packed fields on the AS/400 use a single hex digit as a decimal integer... So the number 1,234,567,890 is stored in 5 bytes as 0x12 34 56 67 90 How to handle them in Oracle? i think if you access them using SQL it will 'expand' the comp-3 field on select so you should have no issue...
