And I didn't listen to you did I? Should have known there was going to be a problem when I noticed that one leg was longer than the other.

My talk on Microcontrollers yesterday went really well. I was buzzing afterwards. I Got some good comments at the end, and the feedback ratings have been amazing. 8.5/9 so far. I can really understand why people do this kind of thing now. It's terrifying, but enjoyable at the same time. Looking forward to my next few now. (Collision detection on WP7 in February is booked, but I may also be doing something at DDD9 in January if I get the votes. Now that will be scary)

I find that I get most nervous when I feel that there may be someone in the audience who knows more about the subject than me. So I end up with a weird backwards-paranoia about speaking, where when I'm talking to a bunch of high-level execs (who know next to nothing about development) I'm not at all nervous, but you put me in front of a group of regular day-shift devs, I get seriously cold feet. Probably comes from the 2 years I spent teaching.

Yeah know what you mean. I didn't have AS MUCH trouble talking to the big wigs cause you could BS them but the troops know what the hell your talking about and will recognize the slightest bit of Caca El Toro.

I've got a talk tomorrow to 12-14 people, not a confident speaker prefer 2-3 people at the most.

So do I. I'm just too scared of the darned thing. I've tried everything - even imagining my sitting audience as pumpkins - but nothing worked. I did terribly. :sigh:

Yeah being prepared and a good knowledge of subject matter are important and if I am comfortable with that I'm OK. Used to teach in house classes in places I've worked on VAX architecture, debugging and C++ programming when it first came out. But am extremely shy so was still a tad nervous.
