It's a grammarian rule, so that's not in the least surprising. AIRI, it was invented by a Scot, and no-one ever understands a word they say, anyway[^]. It's like the *LAWS* of coding and coding style, where people find something that fits what they're working on at the moment, and declare that everyone else should do exactly the same in every piece of code they write (but then they change their minds and do it differently themselves, later).
