It's based on a true story. If you knew the story at all, you would know who dies and when.
I didn't. Funnily enough, I'm not familiar with the stories of everybody who has ever lived. I have enough trouble keeping my own life in order.

I figured it would be in almost any synopsis or plot summary of the movie. I feel bad you and your family walked into that one unprepared, I guess it's time for the life/death lesson. That won't help though, even as an adult, that story is heartbreaking. If someone were to now ask you what the movie is about, how long would it take for you to mention Gere's character's death? That's why I was surprised you didn't know. Made for a rough time I bet.

Oh yes. I'd not heard of this film, and it was advertised in the movie channel as "If you love Marley and Me, you'll love this uplifting tale". As it was a U, Mrs Yoda thought it would be a happy film.

chuckle - I dont have kids, but a close friend has Thomas (6), and Catriona (3.5 going on 19+) .. I was interested in the comparison of ages and the thought 'when are kids emotionally old enough to deal with the topic of death' .. Im guessing/generalising, that unless they have lost a pet or a close family member, they arnt prepared for it for a while longer. I guess I got unlucky, I had to deal with death-of-a-pet at 5, and death-of-a-relative at 6 Last time I visited my friends (they live quite away from me), Thomas/Catriona asked their mum if "Uncle Garth could look after them if Aunty Nicola or Uncle Liam die" (Nicola and Liam are her sister & brother) .. I thought "these kids have no concept of death, so how can they formulate a question like that"... kids - they make ya laugh :-)
