Windows Firewall is decent but I guess it will have to do. If possible I'll look at free firewall alternatives. Thanks!

Oh Thanks. Will check it out once I get home. Most websites are blocked at work here. :sigh:

Uninstalling it properly wasn't. It left all sorts of stuff on your machine :-)

I've read a few positive reviews about this on the net. I'll include this in my possible "candidates" list now that I've got a personal opinion. Thanks. :)

MSE, if you like a freebie. If you are looking for a commercial class product, then choose either McAfee or NOD32. They both are currently doing good in my opinion.

It so happens that my license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 ran out about 2 days back. I'm pondering about getting the 2011 version instead of renewing my own. A friend suggested McAfee and some other name which I forgot. Which ones do you people use? I'm open to suggestions. Suggestions: Kaspersky 2011(mine), Trend Micro, NOD32 and Microsoft Security Essentials as of now. Thank You!

Oh okay. So that's the Windows Firewall? I was looking forward to a better one. Still it's okay I suppose. :)

The windows firewall is NOT okay (a tinfoil hat would be slightly better in comparison). I'd recommend that you get a hardware based firewall (most routers have a firewall inbuilt) or get a commercial antivirus suite (that would contain a decent firewall).

Ahh yes! NOD32. That was the one he suggested. Although if MSE is as close to being good compared to a commercial one then I think I'll be giving it a try first. :)

Thanks. Is NOD32 a commercial software or a free one? I don't seem to remember my friend giving me the inside details of this one. I don't mind either since all I care about is the quality. :) EDIT: Didn't notice that Rajesh had mentioned NOD32 as commercial. Sorry about that.

Sounds like a plan! I wonder how CG would react to a piece of Microsoft software being treated so well!

Not using any! I hate stuff slowing down my machine. So far doing fine without it for 15+ years.

Exactly the same here. Never used this AV crap, hopefully never will. Just a properly configured Firewall (Outpost 4). 99% of all security problems are caused by stupidity.
