IE What? Chrome 10 is shaping up to be quite nippy thought, Javascript engine upto 66% quicker than V9 and GPU accelerated video, what more could you ask for....http://chrome.blogspot.com/[^]

Ah yes.. but IE9 RC is still quicker (sunspider-wise). Here's the results om my machine: IE9 RC : 292ms FF 4b : 333ms Chrome 10b: 344ms Opera 11 : 333ms Firefox is sucking more each day.. the only reason I use it is because of firebug at work. Number of HTML/CSS-features on FF is nice though, but it still crashes alot. IE9 RC is now my main browser besides FF for development. I think it's awesome. They're missing some CSS3 like gradients, text-shadow, etc. but atleast they implementet border-radius, border-shadow, svg, canvas and other goodies!

like it a lot, but already gave a couple points of feedback to the dev team 1) don't treat the tabs as a "special bar" - if you separate the tabs on to another row, and then have say, favorites bar and the Bing toolbar, your tabs are still way at the top, makes for a very unintuitive interface. 2) it still can't handle textboxes on webpages that have large amounts of data. i run a forum that has a textbox in its configuration which contains e-mail & IP addresses off "bot" offenders/registrations. this list is huge. Firefox & Chrome can open the config page w/o delay, and allow me to edit the data in the box and submit the changes. IE9 hangs completely, just as IE8 did. interestingly enough i'm not finding a whole lot of pages that require me to put it in compatibility mode, which is nice.

In the past month I have been using it, I went from hating it to liking it much better than IE 8. I thought I wouldn't like having all the tool bars gone, but now I hate seeing 10 lines of junk in other people's IE 8.

IE9 Beta for some weeks, updated to RC yesterday. *shrug* it's a browser. Super-Paste-Linkety doesn't work on this one web site that has the most super paste-linkety, but I trust this will be fixed with/soon after the real release.

IE9 seemed fast on first using it. Now seems to have slowed to a crawl. Several sites requiring a log-in no longer work, so have to use other browser. A link from an email in windows Mail, say, only opens IE9 browser - the actual page does not load. You have to go back and click the link again. Don't like the favourites opening on the right hand side - they get hidden, as all components by others open there to avoid the old IE versions opening on the left. No sign that MS developers ever actually use their browsers or they would make them more user friendly and reduce constant clicking off of pointless warnings I do not need. Very tiresome. Overall a 5/10.

You could still use IE 9 rendering engine on FF using IE Tab and keep using only one browser. Get the best of both :)

I have been using all the new browsers for development but IE9 is my main browser. FF is still the main browser I use during development (as others have said) because of firebug. But IE9 now supports border radiuses and other features that I use. Ultimately I think it will be a great browser but all of them have their strong points. The two strongest IE9 features to me are, speed and screen real estate IMHO.

I think it's a big improvement on IE8, and knocks FF into the shade. CSS3 is well displayed, but I haven't tried it much with HTML5. Easier to use than Chrome. The older I get the better I was mikeo

It's a lot better than the last release. Very fast, no crashes yet (one week in) and not a lot of wasted screen space. I like Firefox and Chrome too but basically I am just used to IE. Pathetic isn't it?

You should try Firefox 4.0 beta, or else the nightlies, which I use as my day-to-day browser. I pretty much think Firefox 4 is the best browser right now, even pre-release (well, a few weeks away from release they say). It does Direct2D hardware acceleration like IE9, plus it has just about all current web standards supported. The JavaScript engine is also really fast, very close to Chrome and IE. If you noticed, blog posts by IE9's development team seem to have stopped comparing current Firefox builds, perhaps because they are so competitive. I'm not sure what makes them say that IE9 is the only browser to have hardware acceleration because Firefox's D2D layer has been there for nearly a year of development builds. They are definitely really slow to release major releases, but if you use their development builds, it's pretty impressive. As fast as Chrome seemed when it first came out, I think Firefox 4.0 puts it to shame both with its architecture and with its speed. If they finish all of the little UI tweaks that they had planned for 4.0 but that haven't yet made it in, it would be just about perfect for me.

There are no browsers that fully support HTML5 and CSS. Some say they do and when you ask them 'Why dose ??? not work?', they then say they haven't added that function yet!. IE9 dose support most HTML5 and CSS. More than most other browsers. I like the CSS code that can display a video with rounded corners etc. Haven't found any other browser (excluding IE clones) that can do this. So to the question, dose it support HTML5 and CSS the answer is~: Yes just about as good as any other browser.

The sites it dosen't work on may have only been tested with a Mozilla engine and not with a Trident engine. I expect your other browser is using Mozilla. Please list some of the sites, so we cal look at the web page code.

A typical site which has IE9 log-in problems is: http://community.betfair.com/[^] The entered username or password disappears as soon as you enter the other. I use Roboform to log in. It works best with the Gecko engine in Lunascape browser.

HTML5 is a draft standard that won't be completed until 2014 so, to me, HTML5 is non-sequitur until that time. Not that I'm a web developer or even really care, but that's my understanding of the situation! ;-) -Max

I don't like it, at least for now. Most annoying is the address bar... typing a URL behaves really oddly for me. The text seems to scroll off the left side of the box hiding what I'm typing, even though there's plenty of space on the right hand side. Eventually, after I type enough characters it works properly again. I haven't noticed it being any faster. New tab/button layout is confusing me, but presume I will get used to it over time. Refresh/stop/s button seems harder to hit with the mouse (although mostly I use F5 anyway). Don't like the new visual appearance of the back/forward buttons either. Extra vertical screen space is nice though. Does work better with the MSDN forums though. Favourites window appearing on the right is cool too.

So who's been using IE9? Any likes / dislikes?

I love it. I still use Firefox and Chrome but it depends on what I am doing; I use all three pretty regular. What I would like to see in IE9--and how I have it set in Chrome--is to have the favorite bar hidden until I "open a new tab" where the favorites bar would then show itself so I could choose a favorite and the bar would again hide itself. And what about a keyboard shorcut to toggle the favorites bar? So far, I haven't found one. Also, the Tracking Protection is an improvement but in both FF and Chrome I have "AdBlock Plus" where I can actually click to choose an advertisement to block. The addons for Firefox and Chrome are far superior to IEs addons. I'd like to add that IE is still the default browser I use.
