Does anybody here build model cars? The last one I did was about 20 years ago, and I was thinking about taking it back up again. I still have my old Badger air brush and a compressor I used way back when. Here are some pics of some of the cars I build 20 years ago (pictures are just a couple years old - they've held up pretty well): Assembled Model Cars[^] The blue A/C Cobra won 3rd place at a regional IPMS model contest back in 1990. All of the models pictured are 1/24 or 1/25 (except the Benneton Ford, which is a Tamiya 1/20 scale kit), and are 6-8 inches long when assembled.

That's some of the coolest model cars I have seen. Though I like making model cars, but unfortunately I never got around to build this stuff. Now that you have brought this up, I might start doing this and will give you a tough competition.

This is the model car that amazed me : Ferrari 312PB[^] I saw this on one of Clarkson's shows and it just blew me away...

I built model cars about 15 years ago. I would do it every summer for the couple of weeks when it was too hot to go outside for too long. I still have a bunch of unused kits or partial kits (I liked to butcher kits and build rat cars). My mother recent asked what to do with the kits in her basement. Guess I need to decide if it's time to revisit an old hobby.

I used to. IN fact I'd by several kits to make particular umm creations. Ironically I also was thinking of retaking it back up, but locally the choices are limited and the prices for things to me seemed exorbitant

The official term for that is "kit bashing" where you take parts from two or more kits to make a single model that's not otherwise available in kit form. My wife shops at Hobby Lobby and handed me a 25%-off coupon this morning. That will make all models on the shelf about $8 at most. The most expesive part of the whole thing is the air-brush and compressor, and then building up a decent selection of paint colors. The hardest part is prepping for paint, and getting the paint mixed properly. Since I already have a compressor and an airbrush, the rest is going to be easy.

Not cars, but sailing ships. The last one was about 4 years ago – USS United States heavy frigate. Took me three months to finish it, but the result was beautiful. Unfortunately I can’t provide link or open the pictures from work, may be latter when I get home.

I just went to a local store - HOLY CRAP! $25 for a plastic model car kit! I know the reason though... On the box is a little label that starts out: "Officially licensed by..." They've put the hobby solidly out of reach of younger children's budgets...

John - just a minor detail : the IMSA Toyota is a model 88C and it did race a little in IMSA GTP but mostly in Japan and at Le Mans. You can see some pictures of them in action at RaceSportsCars.com[^]. BTW - rfactor2 should be released fairly soon. ;)

Not for the last couple of years (bloody kids) but prior to that I was really into it. More aircraft and armour but plenty of cars as well. I found cars and bike quite rewarding as the painting challenges are different. You can't hide a mistake under a decal or some mud.
