I was asked to spec a highend laptop for Sharepoint 2010 development. Due to extreme space constraints at the client site, using a secondary monitor will not be possible. So naturally I ask for 1920x1080 (or better) resolution. They* come back to me with a 1366x768 spec.... * Not even the retailer, one of our 'top' hardware guys...

That really does suck......i got caught out several years ago by a lack of information on a website and the thought i was buying a high resolution display and ended up a laptop with the same resolution, in VS you could only see about 5 lines of code at a time.....it got swiftly donated to the misses.

You should know, that's a general company rule: they give the half you ask. :-\

Can't remember the exact details but we had a system we had developed running on a server for a while, then the infrastructure people changed its settings to the average that it had needed over the time it had been running. For some reason it started to run badly at times after that. Someone then went to try to explain what average means to them.

A number of years ago I suggested through our suggestion scheme that developers be given a second monitor (because I wanted a second monitor) and was given 50 quid reward for an idea that should improve the productivity of the developers.

They did something even more incredible last week, and costly, but they are still very sensitive about it so I will not be putting details anywhere public. Maybe in a few years time when everyone involved has left and the company has forgotten how much money they have had to fork out to fix the problem.

I wonder if you get laptops with 3840x2160 resolutions?

I had to wait two years in order to get a 22" desktop monitor...
