I've seen a lot of these kinds of posts over the years, and I am finally moved to ask: They suck just today?
No. They suck everyday but they especially suck today.

Not to mention how hard they would suck if CG was around to comment on it. Or as someone once said, "The only time Microsoft will make a product that doesn't suck is when they make a vacuum cleaner"... Personally, I like MS products. While being well aware of their individual shortcomings. //L

I use the Dante Hicks methodology... Credit where credit is due. When they make something that works well, I readily admit it... Which lends a lot more credibility when I verbally thrash something they screwed up :)

I don't know if I "like" their products as much as I make my living with their products. Some of their products are better than others but they ALL can be so much better if they (MS) believed in quality versus quantity.

They have several products I do like, and that I lay claim are quality products. I'm not here to start a flame war, nor to exude fanboyism, but simply to give my point of view. I find that Exchange (particularily 2003 and later) and Excel are but two products that are quality in my book. AD is also quality in my book, although the native management tools leaves a bit to be desired. There are many more. In contrast, there are quite a few MS products I wouldn't go close to, even wearing HasMat gear. //L

Yes... then the one that says Microsoft products suck remember the name of the beast "Lotus Notes" and then suddenly the Microsoft products don't suck anymore. :rolleyes:

They have several products I do like, and that I lay claim are quality products. I'm not here to start a flame war, nor to exude fanboyism, but simply to give my point of view. I find that Exchange (particularily 2003 and later) and Excel are but two products that are quality in my book. AD is also quality in my book, although the native management tools leaves a bit to be desired. There are many more. In contrast, there are quite a few MS products I wouldn't go close to, even wearing HasMat gear. //L
I agree. The last time I used Excel it was brilliant - however I moved to OO because the rest of Office was a PITA. MS do have a habit of taking good products and bollixing them completely, and I haven't tried the 2010 version.

We are only debating on your original post, which I think was good. I got no impression that you want to start a flame war. I think your point of view is not only valid but welcome...not that I or anyone else here, gets to decide that someone's point of view is valid or any better than someone else. Fanboyism...that's just silly. :) I think, that Excel is one of the greatest products ever put out by MS...to this day. Could it be better, sure, but not by much. :thumbsup:

The Ribbon is actually quite nice, if you're just typing up a simple word document. But yes, if one wants to do some glitzy formatting or do some serious work, it is a real pain. While novice users will find the Ribbon easy, MS should have given an option to switch to the old menu system for advanced users.

In the past 14 years of my software development career I've observed that: Microsoft products aren't perfect. Neither is anyone else's. Some Microsoft products do, in fact, suck. Some products suck worse than Microsoft's offerings. The design and use of Microsoft products generally differ from those with which detractors are most familiar. Cheer up, none of this is important in THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS anyway.
