IE9 --- Thumbs down after 60 seconds

Instead of admiting that ie9 is a great browser, very intuitive and easy to use, it has great features that non of the other browsers have. Pls. don't make stupid remarks(no auto-restart on setup completion). It prooves u are pathetic. The reviews don't lie. IE9 is here to stay and it's great.
Excuse me for making a personal opinion. Let me just say that i personally feel that the default look and feel of the IE9 toolbars, address bars and buttons is less aesthetically pleasing than IE8 (which was fine by the way). I found that when scrolling a number of sites on my 2560x1600 monitor the pages seemed more juttery than they did in Chrome at the same resolution. As for the install process, what was the point of restarting some of the processes that it had stopped to do the install only then to tell me if I want to use IE9 I must then restart the computer, and shut all the processes down again, thats just bad planning. Oh, and by the way, those who use text speak while trying to make an opinion are the pathetic ones, how professionally and intelligent does that make your opinion. U is you, and Pls is please, get a grip. And finally, IE9 probably is a great browser compared to the previous versions, but again its is my opinion, which I am entitled to have, if you disagree fine, but no need to resort to insults. Have a nice day :)

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it! for me personally this is the best browser that they have made BUT still behind the times compared to many of the other main browsers such as Opera, Firefox and Chrome in both functionality and use ability.

We get it. You like IE9 (why, is anybody's guess). However, it really is okay just to sit there - silently - smiling smugly to yourself and laughing at us luddites here on CP, secure in your own enlightenment, and without spewing crap in the lounge. Insulting people because they have differing opinions is not productive, and will only draw the attention of the less savory CP denizens - like me.

Whilst I agree that IE9 is perfectly fine I don't agree with the childish way you have chosen to voice your opinion: quite unnecessary.

It was the square edge address bar, the square edged tabs, it just doesn't seem to flow nicely at the top of the screen.

I just opened up Chrome to see what you were talking about witht the address bar and it failed to properly format it's own NewTab page until I clicked the Refresh button! Not impressed. I'll stick to IE9, thanks. Derek.

I haven't tried IE9, but I started with IE1 and stayed with the series until something much better came along. Over the years MS lost it's way - and ground - to it's competitors so much that I went elsewhere, and have never found a need to go back. IE9 may be a good browser, but so is Chrome, so is Firefox, so is Opera. Each of those have "great features" than IE doesn't. And if you think "reviews don't lie" then you have a whole lot to learn!

thats not good, the only issues i have had with chrome is when occasionally, a plug in fails with a particular site. Which version of chrome was that that failed, if you haven't used it for a while, maybe its not updated to the latest V10, or perhaps if that was the first opening since its update. Not trying to defend it, just saying thats all........... :)

I'm glad to see there's other Opera users on here - There doesn't seem to be many of us :( I've been using it since around when version 6 or 7 came out. :)
Yes! One more almost 10 years happy Opera user here (for browsing, email, nntp, feeds, sync, download manager, etc.). I will eventually have IE9 on my machine, for development purposes or for specific sites (I have experimented that LogMeIn works well in IE only). Chrome is also on my machine, for test purposes, as well as Safari and FF. Actually I don't use FF, as it does nothing more or better or faster than the others. I still can't understand why people use FF and how it got its market share.

It's actually 10.0.648.134, but I don't use it much - mainly for checking compatibility when developing web pages - so it may be the first time I've opened it since an upgrade. I've also got Firefox 3.6.12 and Safari 5.0.3 (7533.19.4) installed for the same reason (but don't happen to have Opera on this PC). Arguing over which browser is best based on new features etc always amuses me, since we have users who have to have their browsers downgraded to IE7 due a compatibility issue with Oracle's HFM web package. It doesn't play nicely with IE8 and other browsers are not corporate standards (although they aren't banned either).

Surely your the one who doesn't like change. i.e. you just stick with the browser that you get given. And the only change for us Chrome users to IE9 is that IE9 still sucks no matter how much it wants to be Chrome - IE9 is a poor attempt to look and feel like Chrome

I had always used IE just because it was already there. But when IE7 was released I found it so butt-ugly and counter-intuitive that I switched to FF. It was strictly about the UI. And I've been a happy FF user since then. I'm told that FF is also about to adopt the vacant and confusing look used by Chrome and Opera. That will greatly disappoint me.

So, i thought i had at least upgrade my IE, get it out of the way. So downloads installer and kicks it off: and it closed everything running to install, reopened them again and then told me to restart computer to use it. :wtf: (Why not just close everything, install and then restart computer as part of the install process). Anyway, took a few sites for a quick spin, Engadget, CP, MSN, and after 60 seconds of this, i thought why did i bother. It's toolbar arrangement, tabs, address bar, all look so dated. The page scrolling is not very pretty, it just feels so X| Think I will be staying with chrome.........

It took me a little longer than 60 seconds, but I don't care for it either. Took 3 tries, and killing almost everything else I usually run, before the installer worked, but finally got it installed and rebooted. It is definitely FAST. Pages load in a snap. The user interface is UGLY - the menu bar, command bar, favorites bar and status bar have not changed appearance significantly, so they don't fit with the new style at all. The result is a horrible mishmash of two different interface styles! The first thing I did was the tabs show on a separate row instead of the same row as the toolbar buttons (whoever thought that was a good idea never had more than two tabs open at a time). Then I found that you cannot move the tabs row! So the menu bar, favorites bar and command bar are all now between my tabs and my browser window!!! I absolutely HATE that. I'd give it 5 stars for speed, and minus 7 stars for ugliness and unfriendly interface. As soon as I post this I'm going to uninstall it.

On my machine I have all of those plus Safari as I need to be sure the app I write works in all of them. I'm not sure which "great" features each of those browsers has that IE doesn't -- at least for the average user, and that's the main target for IE. IE is the only browser that makes it easy to print just the selected frame, or just the selected text, and to shrink to fit, etc. I can't even find a print preview feature in Chrome. I can find no way to print only the selected frame in FF (without using JavaScript, that is). Safari's print doesn't print input box outlines properly and it also doesn't deal with the frames properly. (I *SO* wish I could get rid of those frames). Opera's print preview is too confusing to figure out.

Not so. If you look under "Programs and Features", "View Installed Updates", "Microsoft Windows" you'll find an entry for Internet Explorer 9. It's gone from my system. Uninstalling was faster and easier than installing.

Is there some form of conspiracy going on here at CP or am I just paranoid? I post a message about using a new browser which I hadn't heard of before and NO-ONE responds. http://www.codeproject.com/Lounge.aspx?msg=3759370#xx3759370xx[^] Someone posts a message about IE9 and a whole discussion kicks off. Hmmmm I wonder why? :) I don't suppose I'll get a sensible reply to this either. ;P
