Yes, it is oddly. Dont forget a public place has a peculiar meaning in law. For example a pub is a public place depite being privately owned.

"If climate has not "tipped" in over 4 billion years it's not going to tip now due to mankind." Richard S. Lindzen, Atmospheric Physicist, IPCC "It does not matter who you are, or how smart you are, or what title you have, or how many of you here are, and certainly not how many papers your side has published, if your prediction is wrong then your hypothesis is wrong. Period." Professor Richard Feynman

True, very true. Although now I have actually read the report you linked to it seems to suggest the areas are defined more clearly than public areas; "the street and areas open to the public, as well as cinemas, restaurants, stations, public transport or schools". Personally I think it is a lot of effort to go to for around two thousand people out of the entire population. More useful to start ordering ugly people to cover their faces.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

Well I must admit I've not counted them myself, but that is what the report claims France says there is. Maybe there are only a few, but they move around a lot.

France will become the second country in Europe, after Belgium, to apply the ban, starting April 11. [^] Its quite severe. No wearing of a any face covering thing in public places. Whether this applies to crash helmets, skiing goggles, scarves, and whether paint ball must now be played without any face protection remains to be seen! :)

Does this rule apply to the big funny black glasses with fake nose and fake bushy eyebrows? Another reason not to plan a trip to France.

There is more chance that wearing the Burka will be made compulsary for everyone, especially during the Winter Festival, so as not to offend the Muslim population.

France is kinda consistent with this, from the article: France had already banned wearing conspicuous religious symbols such as veils, Jewish skullcaps and crucifixes in schools in 2004.

              Regards, Nish

What? I thought the French were cool and tolerant, unlike us Americans. Surely Johnny Depp will now pack up and leave France due to this injustice...

Continental Europe is a lot more right wing than people believe.

I know, they tend to be more quiet on the global level though. The image that Continental Europe likes to project Westward is Progressive.
