They sound like raspberry crazy ants, and they actually eat the insulation on wires and stuff, and have been known to completely ruin eletrical and electronic devices. To make matters worse, they're very difficult to kill. I think your only recourse is to completely disassemble your laptop as much as possible, and use compressed air to blow them out of the system - or buy a new laptop and let the ants have the one they live in. If you pick the compressed air approach, have a bunch of large plastic bags to put the sanitized parts into so the ants can't reacquire them. Finally, stop eating food while seated at your laptop.

I am currently in country side and yesterday I left my notebook on the floor and ants seems to have found new home in it. There are lots of tiny red ants coming out of keyboard every now and then and I can see them through the spaces between keys. Any solution to get rid of them ? I command them to get out of my notebook but they are very tough and didn't listen to the command. :)

As suggested, Remove battery, put in bag, But...place in a freezer for a couple of hours. I don't think the fridge would be cold enough to kill, just to make them still until they warm up, but the freezer should. Note of warning: LCD displays do not play well below 0C, but SHOULD be safe up until about -20C. Normal freezers are around -8 --> -10C or 0 - 20 F I emphasize 'SHOULD'

Are they marching ants? 'Cos if so, maybe try with a different border type.. mmm.. solid maybe? Or re-position the marquee to the top right (1024, 0) and hope the ants follow...? Haha.. At any rate, "ant" you glad no-one told you to burn your laptop? Oh wait. They did. Mmm.. why not just get a decent debugger that allows you to step ON instead of just stepping IN? :p And what about bug-spray? Setup a perimeter of bug spray on the edge of your laptop if you're worried about spraying into the electronics (if it's a Lenovo, it might have a spillproof "keyboard" so spray away). With the perimeter in place, if they leave your laptop, they'll die. If they stay, they'll eventually die too. You can torture them with a syrup sandwich on the outside at the same time... Or rent "Bug's Life"...

look for a pest control company in your area, and follow their trucks when they go to do the pest control at a client and ask them to leave your laptop inside the house and come back later :) they will all be dead

I find that dead cockroaches attract lots of ants, you can try some strategy with that :) Oh, and do that before the queen starts to breed, if that happens, well they will probably have eaten through your motherboard anyway. Another suggestion is to make the laptop really hot to force them out. Play crysis with all in the maximum, partially seal the vent and make sure your laptop has high temp protection.

Run some code that causes the laptop to heat up - any CPU/disk intensive app will do. The ants don't like the extra heat and will start streaming out.

Put the notebook on a table. Put a pile of sugar about a foot in front of the keyboard near the edge of the table. When they come out to get the sugar wait until there are several of them then cover them and push the sugar and ants off the edge into a sack or other enclosure. Dump them outside or somewhere else they will be out of the house. Repeat this until they are gone. If there are any left after a few iterations you may use a mist of diluted chrysanthemum oil to kill them. You can get it at a pet control store. Sorry to ruin the comical responses with a real one. Somebody had to do it. Here is a comical one a la Dale Enhardt to fit in: "Cover its legs with gasoline and light it on fire"

When ants get in my cereal boxes, I get a dinner plate, put some soapy water on it, put a bowl in the middle of the dinner plate, and balance the cereal box on the bowl. There is no way for the ants to leave without crossing the soapy water, and they will drown when they try. Eventually they will all be gone, as they have needs not provided by the cereal box and soapy water. Some periodic puffs of compressed air keep them stirred up, and increase the chances of them accidentally falling off the box.

Hmm.. that's a novel debugging task ya got there.. your last name Lovelace by any chance? :) Bake or freeze the laptop. Check its max and min storage temps and take it to one or the other for long enough to reach that all the way deep inside, then keep it there for at least a few hours or maybe overnight. Chances are, they won't be able to survive 24-48 hours of either, and probably not even more than a few hours of the high temp limit. Personally, I'd chill it overnight if it could withstand the freezer, but they might be able to survive that. Baking in your oven would probably be better, but ovens are difficult to control at such low temps, and cooking it too hot might kill the laptop too. Or you can just wait them out. They don't live forever without food and water, and may not do too much damage before they die. Just make sure to keep moving the laptop from place to place to prevent them from being able to import food and water back to a nest inside. Or perhaps encourage that by setting some poison ant bait out next to it for a few days and let them transport it back inside to kill the others.

Open the notebook up and use a can of compressed air to shoot them out. You could always try a vacuum as well.
