SkyDrive - Alternative to Dropbox?

After reading this[^], I'm thinking of moving away from dropbox. Something didn't smell right from day one there anyway. Even though I'm not worried about DRM or copyright content etc., ethically I don't like sites who tell one thing and do another. What are the alternatives? SkyDrive seems nice but I couldn't find any link that talks about what they do and what not. DO you use anything else that is simple as Dropbox and has better security and openness?

Read all the comments underneath the blog post for further enlightenment. Deduplicating doesn't mean they read your files. What makes you think dropbox are saying one thing and doing another? (unconcerned Dropbox user)

If they create a hash of the file before encrypting and store that they get the same results. Otherwise they would have to keep the uncencrypted files for comparison later, increasing storage space. I think someone has jumped to a conclusion.

It works well... the only problem is that if you want to get safety the user has to have a live account.

Read it again. If the file is encrypted, it should not be possible to de-duplicate it... get the idea?

That's OK if they are using hashes to de-duplicate files. But the last statement is dubious;
Dropbox tries to be very smart about minimizing the amount of bandwidth used. If we detect that a file you're trying to upload has already been uploaded to Dropbox, we don't make you upload it again. Similarly, if you make a change to a file that's already on Dropbox, you'll only have to upload the pieces of the file that changed.
If a user makes changes to a file which was deemed duplicate, how can it detect only the changed portion and store it if the site cannot read the common file? They are encrypting the data for sure, but I do not think that the private key is per user, which is kinda pointless when it comes to personal data privacy.

No it doesn't. It only deduplicates YOUR files alone, not along with everyone else's files.

Does anyone know how to get a direct link (if possible) to files stored on SkyDrive or AmazonCloud?
