I really don't understand why people are so worked up over Bin Laden getting killed. Yes, I'm glad they nailed him, but in the end, nothing changes - for anyone. The terrorists are still out there and even more determined than ever to wreak havoc, and we are still out here making targets of ourselves. While people are out there celebrating, the terrorists are still doing their jobs. The price of libery is paid through eternal vigilance and the ability to act. My advice remains the same - arm yourselves. EDIT =========== I am also of the opinion that it's time for us to leave Afghanistan and Iraq. We did what we said we were there to do, and it's time to widthdraw.

Assuming you really see some terrorists coming, would you really feel comfortable about most people you know getting ready to play minutemen? Most people I know I would hand nothing more lethal than a broom.

OBL getting shot in the head doesn't stop terrorism, we all know this but it is nice to see a prick get nailed in his end every now and then. :)

Part of it is showing that people like that will be found so the little people will know they aren't safe and it removes a figurehead. It may even start a bit of a power struggle and save western bullets.

Most people that *I* know? Yeah, I'm comfortable with that. Most people *you* know? If they have the means, yeah - I'm comfortable with that. Most of the people *I* know are equipped, trained, and experienced to react, defend, and even transition to an offensive posture. The people I hang with aren't exactly a "wait till they find us" kind of group.

I think a lot of it has to do with closure. Someone had to pay for what happened and he was the main target. Just my 2 sense.

From what I've seen, their command and control structure is pretty good (they kicked the Russians out of Afghanistan and are doing a pretty good job on the US there as well), and if anyone thinks an order of succession wasn't established immediately after 9/11 are sadly mistaken. There will be little/no effect on their operations, and for all we know, Osama's death may have been the trigger to activate a number of sleeper cells around the world. History about Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden is quite bitter. The orgainzation and the character were created by US government to defeat Russia. Afterwards, nothing happened. Then all of a sudden 9/11 took place. After this incident which was condemed by every society, nothing happened in US. But Afghanistan and Iraq were burnt for searching. The same is happening in Pakistan now.

Facinating. I know enough people, you would surely have some colorful name for their types, who are plain too dumb or to clumsy to be entrusted with any weapons. And arming them probably poses more of a threat than any terrorists.

Call me cynical if you want to...

Al Qaeda is an odd one, the best way to look at it is as a fast food franchise: Fancy committing a terrorist atrocity? We'll train you to our standards and you can slap the al-Qaeda stamp of approval on it. That way the cell gets more notariety if they succede, and al-Qaeda looks bigger than it really is. I even heard the view expressed here that al-Qaeda doesn't exist in any meaninful sense, it is more a figurehead organisation. The hope is that with the charismatic [apparently] OBL gone, they'll attract fewer nut-jobs willing to murder in the name of whatever. The problem is, as you correctly point out, there is an increased likeliehood of reprisals in the short term at least.
