Alright, I manually rebooted the phone, and nothing changed. (some people claim it worked for them when they did that). I tried a few more times, and then this last time it went past step 6, a progress bar showed on my phone, and I thought this time it's all good. No such luck. After a few minutes I get this error on the Zune interface: Error Code C101007B! Apparently this is a generic error message that just means the update failed. It's supposed to give me a more specific error code but it hasn't! X|

    Regards, Nish

you should call GetLastError(), and possibly also FormatMessage(). :)

Damn you, Luc! :) Meanwhile, I find that despite the failure codes my phone now shows the OS version to be that of the Feb update. :~ I am now trying to get the March update installed. 4th attempt now. Told me something about how the USB connection is not there, while the phone shows the USB-connected icon, and Zune can still access the folders in the phone. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up! :wtf:

      Regards, Nish

Congratulations. A few stories like this each week have kept me from buying a smart phone for years now. I hope I can keep resisting them. Six months ago I did buy a nice Philips flat screen, unfortunately it also wants to be a computer: it takes software updates, and has a "restart" menu item. I had to update its software three times already, i.e. there were some bugs, most of them minor; each update removed some of them, only one minor bug remaining now. :)

Been 20+ minutes now and it's stuck on step 6 of 9 (rebooting your phone). I did see my phone rebooting but now it's come back to normal mode (no indication on the phone that an update is on). Anyone else had any success with this? :~ Zune shows step 6 of 9. The phone shows nothing. I am scared of canceling here as it may wreck the phone.

                Regards, Nish

In my case it succeeded in the second attempt. But the nice thing was that it rollbacked to the previous version on failure.

For me, the Feb update said failed but the OS version showed the Feb version number. And then later the March update completed too, so I hope it's all good now.

And the April update didn't pass QA? or there isn't anything more to fix? :)

The March update is the latest one, AT&T (phone service provider) delay delivered it to their phones though. If this was an unlocked phone I could have updated in March.

Hi Nishant, Perhaps this will give you comfort during your rite-of-passage: "I have always wished for my computer to be as easy to use as my telephone; my wish has come true because I can no longer figure out how to use my telephone.*" ... attributed to Bjarne Stroustrop best, Bill * even though this has been widely quoted and attributed to Bjarne, he has actually denied having said this, but commented that he might as well have. See: ^

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." Ada, Countess Lovelace, 1844

If this is a flash update type thing I've given up on those since one bricked my SPV M5000 (HTC Universal). It wasn't even a hacked / unofficial one but the one straight from the orange site.

Man, you have had some bad luck with that phone haven't you? Both updates installed flawlessly on mine. Now waiting for the security update to show up.

Too funny, Nish. Hasn't it occurred to you that it came pre-wrecked?
