Why .Net community sites like developerfusion, 4guysfromrolla, aspalliance, csharpcorner etc are almost extinct now? I know few years back these (and many similar) sites had very active user contributions but now there seems to be handful of users with nothing new to offer. CP is still an exception though.

        Everyone moved to CP? :-D

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Possibly because the best authors have come over to here to write articles?

Hi "The Digital Worm," Well, a knee-jerk reflex response is to say that CodeProject "blew them out of the water" by its sheer vast scope, highest-quality content, and friendly people :), but that seems a bit tasteless. More likely, the dominance of CodeProject and StackOverFlow are just a natural "settling out," with the "best values" naturally gathering momentum and "mind-share." I like saying it that way better, and in no way, in saying it that way, do I discount the enormous efforts put into making CP what it is by its staff, and such peerless contributors as ... so many it would be pointless to start naming them. And, there remain lots of high-quality blogs in this technical area: my current favorite is Anoop Madhusudanan's AmazedSaint: wonderful content, and good writing, well presented: [^]. Happy trails, Bill

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." Ada, Countess Lovelace, 1844

I stopped using aspalliance simply because of the eye-bleeding red background you were forced to look at while the thing slowly rendered. 4guysfromrolla & csharpcorner were OK, but neither had the answers as often as CP.

The rise of CP and SO can probably be attributed to the fact that they offer practical advice on problems that people face on a day to day basis. In other words, the forums add value. Sites such as 4Guys offer articles, often very well written ones, but there are a million and one blogs out there offering the same things. Developers appreciate being able to get focussed answers to the problems they are having, and a lot of devs don't want to (have time to) read an article to see how it might fit their problem - it's far easier to write "Plz Snd Cdz Urgntz".

This started out as 4 guys, but only 1 guy was really passionate about it (it quickly went from 4 guys to 1 guy), and he recently stopped writing articles.

well you've got to ask what the value of CP is and whether it is/has been eyed up by the likes of M$. Should the owners sell it then someone will be taking the Hampsters on a big holiday Bryce
