Our river usually flows at 400 cubic feet of water per second. It is now at over 40,000 cf/s ...which is just about half of the flow of NIAGARA FREEKIN' FALLS. Insane. Rain's let up, which is good. Army's here now, about 700 personnel deployed to the area to help with sandbagging and dike construction. I won't clog up the lounge with new threads, just thought I'd post a quick update. Cheers. Update: here's a home in the evacuated area: that's how we roll[^]

I have to say I'm a little glad to be away from those two rivers. On a lighter note[1], here's today's news from the Manitoba government's site:

Province Announces New Cottage Country Opportunities for Manitoba Families

Good luck, and stay dry [1] OK, on a black humour note...

sounds not to different from what the mighty Mississippi river is doing to us down here around Memphis. Good luck and start building that ark so you can float downstream and come get us too....

That'd be a long trip, and only a minority would be downstream. I'm 99% sure he lives in the Assiniboine River basin which ultimately discharges into the Hudson bay.

I'm surprised the company didn't insist that they tear down those useless local businesses and use the rubble for dikes around the store. Good luck, man.

Actually, they did that long before the flood. But at least now I can buy cheap pickles by the gallon.

Not to rain on your parade. That's not a good one to use, but according to The Weather Network, you guys are going to receive 15 mm of rain over the next 24 hours, followed by another 15 mm over the next three days. The only good news to take from that is that the measurement is in mm and is no longer in cm. Best of luck to you and everyone there. :)

I empathize. I live in a town of about 25,000. We have a 'Super Wal-Mart' on the outskirts; if it ever starts providing tattoo services or selling used books, the remaining downtown businesses are doomed.

Governmental employees are never in good taste. Even grilled with onions and ketchup.

Yeah, ours is expanding its grocery section and is already open 24 hours a day for 3 months of the year. They've driven out most pharmacies, small vehicle repair shops, oil change places, book stores, corner stores, etc. Our downtown is 1/3 empty. If there's any beauty to it, our downtown is high and dry and Walmart is going under.
