Ok, so the development market is really picking up steam I am getting a bunch of unsolicited emails from recruiters right now. Not that I am interested, I am booked for the rest of the year but some of the projects themselves are interesting. So I sometimes reply with a question for the "end-client". In all cases where I do this, I get a response from the recruiter speaking on behalf of the client. Based on the phraseology in the response I know full-well that my question was never asked. So my rant? Why do they have to lie? Can't they just say, "You worthless bag of scum you wasted my time by having the audacity of having a contract while I am trying to fill one and you had the arrogance to ask for clarification from the client!" Or maybe, just a simple no, we won't forward your question. It is so clear that this industry has no concern for their clients, the people they staff, or the success of failure of the projects they eventually get to represent. Why do companies keep using them?

I'm seeing this as well. I've been contacted by 3 recruiters (2 reliable) in the last week about jobs. I too am not looking, but I don't think I've ever been contacted that many times in a week when I wasn't actively looking for a job.

I have been asking this same question for years. Toss in the number of times that I've been sent on interviews that have almost nothing to do with my skill set or the absurd markups some of them take on the contracts. By and large, the headhunter "industry" is filled with used-car salesmen. I hate 'em.

Same reason why I prefer working on Sw factories, like a box of chocolates, you'll never know who ate the last one! Seriously, these guys are position fillers, they have no feelings nor remorse of in which hole they throw devs at, they only care for covering their quotes...simple sales men... X|

Because the hiring party is too dull to be able to simply call out 90% of the hundreds of resumes they get because they are simply BS. So they tell HR, I'm too busy to sort through this shit, let's outsource it. Also, if they make a bad hiring move, they can always share some of the blame with the recruiter.

I love the ones I get that go something like this "we are interested in filling a senior "blah" dveloper position and got you resume from the internet and believe you would be a good fit blah blah blah" Senior? really? I have an associates degree(still working on the bachelors) and one year experience. Senior? you actually read my resume? yeah right.. I don't bother to answer.

In regard to your question: We are a very upwardly mobile e-Commerce centric business with a strong interest in porting our various services to cloud based virtualization structures while maintaining our forward facing integration profile. I hope that helps.

One recruiter actually called me and when I started asking questions he frankly told me that if he tells me too much, I might figure out who the client is and contact him directly thus leaving him without commission. This is the reason why whoever uses recruiters, ends up with desperate noobs. :)

Maybe they're just lazy. I got this call last week him: "I know you just talked to x last week and said you weren't looking. But I want to know if you know anyone that's looking for a C# or VB position? 80% of the people that are emplyed are looking." me: "No, but I'm going to a TRINUG meeting tonight at 5 where I might see someone. It's in RTP." him: "Oh, okay. Well..." me: "Do you know what TRINUG is?" him: "No" me: "It is the Triangle DotNET users group meeting, do you want to come?" him: "I was hoping maybe there was someone I could call before the meeting?" (note he's local, and it is 4:20 PM) me: [stunned silence] him: "Maybe I can advertise on that site or sponsor an event there" me: "I don't know, you can pull it up and look" [click] Seriously? I think I'd change my plans and beg borrow or steal to get in that meeting I was just told about. Ironically, I met someone that was in the market and referred my friend to person x - the nice person who was considerate of my time. It felt good. -Chris C.
