So, anyone in the Lounge following my career path may recall that I had my manager leave after 6 months of my hiring. Well, the lead developer is now the new manager. It seems he may be a little spending crazy, buying everyone Blackberries, hiring another developer, ordering some new servers, he got a raise, nobody else did though. However, he comes from a consulting background, only 3 years ago he was a consultant. He is now consulting crazy, too. His first expense was on a $275 per hour, yes that is correct, $275USD per hour SQL consultant. After the first 4 hours, my manager came to me and told me what he "learned" from the consultant, after he was done I told him: "You do remember each of these points was brought up to you about a month ago, it's in an e-mail I sent to everyone." His response, "Well, why didn't you do any of it?" Me, "You didn't believe me and said we should get an expert in." Also, it seems he's been going out to lunches with his old consulting buddies and keeps mentioning how they will save our team money in the long run. No solid plans to hire them out yet, though.

Your company is going bust. I am an accountant, I see this all the time. No control over spending always brings tears before bedtime. When you spend money outside the company on stuff that can be sourced from within, then somebody needs to get their arse fired. That's a bit of Cost Accountancy consultation you can have for free!

We are a team of 3. There was 3 developers and a manager, not 2 developers and 1 manager/developer with $$'s in his eyes like a cartoon. The other developer on my team is a clockwatcher, and should be lucky to be employed. The old manager, and new manager don't think that highly of him. I looked at his code last week, to add a little feature to a control. 40k lines and not a single comment. I don't want to look because it his not good for my track record to look for a new job after only 6 months, plus the pay is good and I probably won't get it elsewhere.

I agree with you here Dave, I already know our department is supporting other departments that are hardly profitable. I also know the guys at the top are the worst spenders. A couple weeks back 5 of us went out for a $1500 going away dinner for my old manager on the company dime. $800 of which was spent on wine. Now I know what $350 wine tastes like...

I hope someone above him sees what he is doing and stop him before too much damage is done. I don't blame you for now wanting to look for new work at this time. Times are tough, jobs are scarce and six months won't look all that great on the resume. I hope all works out for you.

Yeah, I think no matter what I need to stick out for the full year, but I'll keep my eyes open for anything interesting. I finally got my linked in profile going.

Haha, no shit! I think he's hiring old chums, not sure though. The guy that came it today was very good and professional, speedy, too. I'd recommend him to anyone with a budget.
