Anyone here used this? Just remotely completing the installation of a new machine for the Missus running Windows 7. Install Foxit 4.3.something and then was advised there was an upgrade to 5 available when I first run it. So I told iot to download and install, after it uninstalled 4.x it started the actual install. Now the Ask powered bullshit bar (or whatever it is called) has been there for ages, but during installation I could tell it not to not make Ask my homepage of browser search thingymajig by clicking cancel. This would skip the Ask Toolbar crap but not the Foxit installation. In 5.x it seems that the Ask Toolbar will be installed if you want Foxit installed at all. Now I for one hate Toolbars and don't want it installed. Anyone no of a way to tell the Ask Tolbar to fuck of? Alternately what other Non-Adobe PDF viewer do you recommend?

I found this (nitro)[^] to be quite interesting, although I have just uninstalled it from my old XP box as it was a bit of a memory hog.

Evince. It also sucks in that it doesn't remember any changes you make to the window, but you get no trollbar crap and it also doesn't attempt to be "clever" by ignoring your ColourFringeType setting and it doesn't want you to update every other day (in fact it doesn't want you to update Ever)

On the other hand, I just got an automatic "upgrade" on my work computer of Adobe Reader, I guess version X, and it takes me at least one minute to open a .pdf. ( I am not making it up: 72s last time for a 32k .pdf :wtf: . On my father's PC, I opened a flyer I made with photoshop and saved as .pdf, and it took more than 8 minutes to open. Incredible. ). And the new UI is so ... 1990'. Maybe they switched back to version 1.2 and I did not notice, but what a crap software ! So I could easily live with a bloody toolbar...

With a little effort you can probably nail the toolbar, I'm going to be interested to see if Foxit does the "do you want upgrade" dance. I use and it is far better that the Adobe crap.

I've dropped Foxit since a couple of versions, because it became too big and its install/updates too bothersome (always nagging to install paid version, etc). So I've switched to: PDF XChange Viewer[^] which is still nimble and feature (potentially) interesting added features. Disclaimer: I have no relation whatsoever with the maker of that software.

This[^] seems very nice. I haven't migrated from Foxit to it, but I've tried it out and it works fine -- and *** BIG THING ALERT!!! *** its PDF to other format (including Word doc) conversion is far and away the best I've seen (online conversion, though, so perhaps not appropriate for all documents).

I recently dumped Foxit after using it and recommending it for years. It was getting too insistent on updating and trying to trick me into installing crap. I decided to try Adobe Reader X and I have found it soooooo much better than previous versions I have stayed with it and kicked out Foxit.

I use foxit myself due to heavily disliking Adobe. The Ask waste of space toolbar is easily removed by going to control panel, uninstall software etc...Don't know about the update issue, my Foxit has not tried to update since I installed it

It is possible to install foxit 5.0 without the ask toolbar, but the wording on the install window is really tricky. Read it very closely and you will figure out how to have it not install the ask toolbar. Having said that, it is possible to uninstall the ask toolbar.
